Snapmaker PLA is not working?

Hi guys,

I’m so happy with my new 350 3dprinter. I was testing it so much time, I made some models and everything was ok. Something happened, I bought from Amazon three 1kg PLA snapmaker original from here:

I was making some piece with the original PLA that came with the 3d printer, and then I changed to the other one that I bought on Amazon. Something strange happened with the piece, and I had to stop printing, I realized that piece started to change the external finishing and I touch it, and was weak, but just started another piece because I thought that was the PLA changing.

I started to test so many configurations, printing with this new PLA, with different kind of infills, but EVERY model started to be weak, and I supposed that was the infill, but I changed this idea when I returned to the configuration that works to me (mostly with cubic infill) when I was using the original PLA that came with printer, but also the pieces were weak.

Also I realized, that when I change PLA, I started to see some PLA dust in the aluminium parts where PLA has contact, something that didnt happened with original PLA. Also if you scratch the new damaged pieces made with new PLA, you can generate so easly PLA dust, something that doesnt happen with pieces made with original PLA.

I bought another brand of PLA to test printer and I will make a final conclusion, but everything said to me that is the quality of this PLA of snapmaker that I bought on Amazon. ¿What do you think?, ¿What can I do?. At this time any piece that I print is weak and in this way is not working the printer with this problem.

Looks like the filament may have high moisture content, a known issue with certain batches of snapmaker filament.

a) Dry it out in the oven, google for instructions.
b) Don’t buy it anymore, instead stick with reputable brands with history. Recommendations aplenty here on the forum.

Hi Brent,

Thank you for your reply. Yes, I was reading about it, I’m thinking to buy this dryer:

Anyway moisture should be taken before was packed (in the factory) in this kind of “vacumm packaging”, that is sent the product.

I also I’m reading that this PLA brand is fine:

Thanks (n.n)

And yet time and time again testing has shown that they ship wet filament from the factory. I agree with your “should”, but the fact is they don’t always.

Just one example:

That drier looks decent. And I have heard good things about that filament as well.

Incredible. This thing about the moisture is interesting, probably this Snapmaker PLA has this problem, I will test putting inside this dryer, and I will write here if works.

Thank you for your answers, so helpful.

I’m on it. Anyway, I will test it first with dryer, if definitely doesn’t work I will return those PLA filaments.

Thanks

Final conclusion:

  1. Dont buy Snapmaker PLA. I tried another time with ESUN PLA, and model was perfect.
  2. I tried like three times to put inside SUNLU, the Snapmaker PLA, and didnt work, probably is not moisture, is overall material quality.

Greets and thank you another for your help
