Snapmaker PLA filament question

I have used the black filament that came with my snapmaker for awhile, and noticed black dust around the round (i believe stainless steel) gromet that you feed the filament into for the extruder.

I thought oh that is weird ok (figuring it was normal) and didnt think much of it.

I am quite new to 3d printing so i was printing a profile i extruded with auto scad and it came out OK i guess.

Then i went to print something decorative, so i unloaded the spool and loaded in some orange off brand crap from amazon.

Couldnt help but notice that the off brand stuff seemed to print nicer using similar settings, but I was refining my technique so figured it was from that.

Anyhow, there was no dust on the orange but didnt think about it at all until I went to put the black back in and saw the dust come back along with the lower quality print job

I cannot tell if the filament sucks or if I suck, any guesses?

Yea, it’s not you. Snapmaker has had some quality control issues from the filament supplier, sounds like you got a bad batch. See here: A350 printing "into thin air", no filament extruded

Though some dust around the inlet will be normal for most filament. That is a result of the filament being scraped against the steel.
