Hi, welcome to our forum! Please introduce yourself. =)

My introduction and SEARCH for advice.

Hello fellow SnapMaker users. Allow me to introduce myself.

First off let me address my user ID. I have been asked about this in other forums that I frequent. While my children were in school they all took Spanish as a second language. Whenever their friends would come to the house they would all refer to me as Padre’ – O (a play on “Daddy – O”). My ID picture is sort of a mash-up of mine and my children’s adolescence, “Mister Natural” and “Papa Smurf”.

I am 62.5 years old, approaching retirement, married, with 4 adult children and 9 grandchildren. Having been furloughed during this pandemic, the one thing I have learned is I NEED something FUN & CREATIVE to do during retirement.

I spent over 30 years as a “Hardware Test Engineer” for a major electronic company. I programmed numerous computer controlled test systems, so I have a basic understanding of linear thinking. In my younger days I took some junior college courses in graphics design, including computer graphics (PHOTOSHOP 2d & RAYDREAM 3d).

In some of my other lesser hobbies I have noticed an increase of accessories and replacement parts available from 3D printing. During quarantine I have watched more than my share of YouTube videos about different 3D printers. The idea of a 3-in-1 type machine interested me the most.

Once I saw the “Snapmaker 2.0” videos I was hooked. The appearance of the SOLID construction, having twin rails for the “Y” axis stability, further pushed my decision. After looking at videos of the original Snapmaker, I could see the advancements the company was making. I had to jump aboard this train and see where it would lead. A visit to their website was the final step, discounted pre-order price, shipping in September. HERE TAKE MY MONEY!

So I have placed my pre-order, (Snapmaker 2.0 A350) and I’m anxiously waiting for September to come (Christmas in September?).

I now pose the question to all of you. What should I be acquiring / studying in preparation for the arrival of this wonderful machine? I’ll leave the ideas up to you and try to follow along.

Thank you everyone for your support and maybe sometime soon I can make a contribution to this wonderful forum.

Hello All,

I’m Alex, a Mechanical Engineer in the Aerospace Industry working as part of a special projects engineering team at an undisclosed company in the UK.

Like many of you I’m sure, I have an unhealthy appreciation for gadgets and toys, and have been looking to purchase my own hybrid CAM machine for some time.
FINALLY they are starting to approach an achievable sum for the average consumer

I saw the kick starter for Snapmaker 2.0 early last year and regularly revisited to see how the project was progressing, but until recently have not been able to find the resources, space or more importantly a compelling argument to tackle the wife into putting my money down.
2020 finds me purchasing a new home with a garage attached to the side which I have dubbed “Mein Cave” where I can finally start putting a tinkerer’s workshop together and get all my other engineers junk out of the spare bedroom. Hopefully we’ll be in by December 2020!
The wife has recently found herself impulsively crafting every single thing she can find on Pinterest and was very happy to become a proud owner of a Cricut machine for cutting and embossing and drawing etc.
This was the perfect leverage I needed to jump on the Snapmaker and I am excited to become a proud owner of the A350 at some point later this year.

I have been watching the Snapmaker Academy Videos, reading content on the forum and the Facebook groups and I’m really excited to get involved and already starting to make a list of projects.
I gotten a really good feeling about the community and snapmaker staff in my short time browsing and im feeling very inspired by some of the things you are all creating!
I’d like to make an official announcement of my appreciation of the Snapmaker Team, you guys are quite obviously working very hard to bring us all a fantastic and innovative product with fair pricing and building a big hub of information, thank you so much for all your hard work.

What I would also like to say is I have also read a number of complaints from backers and pre-orders about delays etc.
To these people I would like to say:

The world is in a crazy place right now, Snapmaker have a huge demand for their product, no doubt huge restrictions on their supply chain, manufacturing and logistics.
They’re probably tearing their hair out from the huge weight of responsibility to their customers, way before you even contemplated writing your public complaints… And their still making a good effort to respond to these and to us on here and Facebook etc.
Please have a little patience, - a little more if you feel your patience is wearing thin!
We’re all excited for the arrival of what is proving to be a game changing product for the consumer level market, and I bet you’ll forget all about how frustrated you are once it’s in your hands.
Please stop tainting these hardworking people due to aspects out of their control, the biggest probably being just how in demand their product line is becoming!
Please keep smiling and stay constructive!

I for one will keep smiling and enjoy learning the foundations of the craft and adding to my list of projects!!
There is so much material to read, principles to learn and software to become proficient with to keep me busy until the end of the year anyway! So I’m in no rush!

I’m really looking forward to being a part of this community!

Cheers!

Hi @Alex.T.Gates

Glad you are in the community. Like most places you only hear from people with complaints. I many cases problems are caused by inexperience and learning. You don’t hear from the numerous happy community members, of which I am one.

Have fun when you get one.

Hi. I’m Bill. In '72 I used one of these to “manage” a $64 million project to upgrade the US Army Ammo storage sites scattered all over Germany. I didn’t have access to a computer but I could encode everything onto the data cards, sort and print them to give the colonel the information he needed.

Hello @Domino

Welcome to the best community forum on the planet. I am just an ordinary user and am having great fun learning and using my Snapmaker. Many of the other users on the forum are experienced and great help so don’t be afraid to ask questions.

My only request is that you search the forum first before asking questions as there maybe answers already available. Many of us a tiring of new users not doing any homework and just after a quick answer, you will soon be neglected if that is your approach.

Take care and keep having fun.

Hello all,

Based in Perth, Western Australia, I’ve just ordered an A350 due to ship in November. The deal with the enclosure was just too hard to pass up.

I’ve been a long-time viewer of various machining YouTube channels, This Old Tony, Abom79, Keith Fenner, not to forget the woodworking community and the various 3D printer people who spend their energy sharing their trials and tribulations.

The more I look at SM2, the more impressed I am.

My background is IT, broadcasting and public speaking. I’m also a licensed radio amateur (VK6FLAB), self-employed, write software, produce podcasts, write books, etc.

I’m a firm believer in giving back, so I started with creating a specifications sheet that shows the various specs of the four SM devices available today - feel free to add comment and point out errors:

I have no doubt that I’ll be spending a lot of “spare” time learning about the things I know nothing about, but then that’s one of the reasons I placed my order.

Look forward to the adventure!

Hi All,
I recently ordered the A350 and am anxiously awaiting its arrival in November. I’ve never used a CNC, nor a laser, and definitely not a 3D printer in my life…but I am handy with tools and pretty crafty and have been interested in CNC and lasers for awhile and did some online research and thought the 2.0 was a great way to learn them all and have some fun creating things.
Just hope this old dog can learn some new tricks.
Also, hoping that my son can learn to use it and maybe earn some $ selling some cool items.
I decided I’d make my own enclosure but was looking for tips on the dimensions to build it to??

You’re in good company. I too am new at this adventure and I too am waiting for shipping in November.

Hi!

I’m Stuart, originally from the UK, but now in Southern California.

I wanted a laser cutter, my wife wanted a 3d printer. Snapmaker solved all our problems!

Hi @Mike1 and @OrionPirate, welcome to the forum! You will find useful tips here about 3D printing, laser engraving, and CNC carving. See you around and happy making

Hi there, my name is Allen. I have ordered and am awaiting delivery of a Snapmaker 2.
I have no experience of using this equipment but am interested in the technology and
have used CAD in the past and so am interested in converting drawings into objects!

Hi Allen, nice to meet you. The community here is pretty friendly and helpful. Skills are all over the map, so you’ll fit right in!

Hello, my name is Rick. I just received my Snapmaker A350 this week. I have the 3D print head up and running as well as the CNC head. Ran into a process issue with the Laser head (All black Camera Capture), so have not run the laser head yet.

I am a retired electrical engineer and long time “maker”. I do a lot of woodworking, but also play around with projects based on Raspberry Pi.
