New to using cnc machines. Bought a second hand A350 a couple months ago and initially assumed it was OK. Started getting unusual markings or non printed areas (using lazer) and with machine stopping for no reason. I printed 3 of the same image using the same medium Bolsa (basswood as some know it) and the same settings and each print came out different (???). I now have a problem with the power unit not starting immediately and is intermittent. Also it will not connect using wifi . The ip address does not show and even if I type it in it still will not connect even though trying. I have now tried connecting directly using cable and still nothing is accepted. I have used two different computer, a windows 10 and a windows 11 and still nothing. I have also noticed the usb port is flashing intermittently.
My only assumption at this point is the power module is faulty and I’m unsure of whether it’s worth the expense to overcome the problem.
Might be another toy destined to the scrap heap although I’d rather not.
Any suggestions not requiring a lotto win would be greatly appreciated.
Regards
Kevin Victor
Hello, maybe i can help you with the connection problem. If you can’t connect via wifi check if you hide your SSID in your router options. Make shure that your SSID is unhide.
Greetings
The ssd is fine. it suddenly decided not to find or display it on the computer program.
Also I forgot to mention, the screen on the unit would always activate when I turn on but now there is nothing - gone the way of the DODO but the usb port you plug the usb stick has an intermittent light flashing. The usb itself works fine on the computer and I have also tried others in the machine but with no success.
My suspicion is still the power module (or power pack as some people know it).
Thank you.
Regards
Kevin.
If you suspect the power pack, you could buy a replacement from SN, however if you are reasonably competent, you can take the power pack apart, and just replace the actual power supply inside, and still keep using the case etc.
from memory it was all plug and play, (screw and play) inside.
Open it up and have a look. I think there was a indications inside as to what you need to replace it with.
I can dismantle the power box but how do I know one unit from another. Snapmaker doesn’t supply much in the way (actually none I can find) of diagnostic, fault finding and parts replacement.
I’ll rip it apart this afternoon and see what I can make of it.
If you know of such a thing as a workshop or repair manual it would be helpful and thanks for your assistance.
Regards
Kevin
I was trying to find mine last night to post a picture, but it’s packed away.
From memory, it becomes obvious once you see it.
If you search the SM 2.0 FB forum, I believe there’s some old posts about it there.
I have finally got the machine working through direct connect to computer and I am waiting for it to finish to see how it turns out.
It seems that I may have lost internet connection although I fail to understand why. It was connecting quite easily initially and had no problems with it. I haven’t changed any settings and other equipment connected via wifi are working fine. Is it possible the touchscreen is faulty?
It’s more likely your router security had blocked it, or your IP address has changed.
I find the 2.0 is fussy about WiFi strength, even though it may show as connected on the touch panel.
I put a WiFi extender nearer to the machine and it’s normally OK now.
I think I’ve got it sussed.
The usb port is a bit sloppy as well as the link port from the computer. If you wriggle them around slowly and get a connection it all comes on.
I have jammed some offcut card in the portd and secured them better and it all seems OK now so I am in process of trying another print at the moment to see if it prints without cutting out or stalling.
I think the previous owner was a little harsh and the cable to the screen was very taught and pulling the cable sideways. If that solves the problem I may have to get a new controller assy but I really don’t to spend needless expense or time on it.
I’ll keep you posted.
thanks
I would make two suggestions then.
- Get a 30cm USB extension cable, so there’s no tension on the cable when using the machine with USB keys. You could also get a USB C extension cable to take the tension off of the controller.
- Only use a USB key to transfer files, rather than cable to computer. I don’t even use the Wifi.
I was only using WiFi when trying to find out what was going on. You’re correct about the cable putting side pressure on the port but the usb port is sloppy as well. I’ll see if I can find a better fitting one. All I have to do now is get a decent print. Lots of practice.
You can connect via cable if wifi does not work as it should.
The power supply for the A350 is not expensive to replace. Also they had come out with a quiter one where the fan slows and speeds as required and makes it less noisy. I still have the old version but I replaced the fan with a quieter third-party one.
Also make sure your firmware is updated for any tool head you are using!
If you contact snapmaker support they WILL assist. In this respect they are one of the best companies out there.
