Initial setup: X Offset Calibration says it saved, but save Y Offset screen just loops

Hi. I’m setting up the Artisan and going through the initial setup.

  • Filament Loading is successful
  • Z Offset Calibration and Heated Bed Leveling is successful
The issue is when I do the XY Offset Calibration.
The test prints fine, I think (see attachment). I’m able to save the X Offset, but when it comes time to save the Y Offset, I press save, a pop up asks me to confirm. I do, and it just goes back to the Y Offset screen again asking me to save.

I don’t think it is saving the X Offset either, because I’ve redone this step MANY times and it’s pretty much in the same place.

Been searching for answers and a lot of questions are about errors that pop up. I have no errors, it just won’t save. I’ve turned it off and on multiple times.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance for any help.

No idea honestly and IMHO a case for support, but what I can see is that both X and Y are very much off! I’d recommend to double check if your hotends sit well in place! The white filament should sit on top of the orange one, not inbetween - the image from the Wiki shows this very well:
https://wiki.snapmaker.com/artisan/user_manual/ishot_2022-12-07_16.04.12.jpg
And I can confirm that this image comes close to what I (and many others) get.
I could imagine that one of your hotends did not properly snap into the cradle they sit in.

EDIT: Found to things:

Is it the dual Extruder of the Artisan or one you also used on 2.0?

I had this too. Try to swap the hotends.

Thanks @Hauke and @Wyphorn for the replies. I saw that link during my research for a solution, Hauke and that lead me to see that the nozzles weren’t level, the right was off. Think it happened during shipping.

I also put in a support ticket and have to send in some logs.

I’m thinking like Wyphorn said, I’ll have to take the hotends out and put them back in.

I can’t find any info on taking the hotends out and putting them back in. Anyone got any resources? I would really like not to mess this up! haha

Thanks again.

I was surprised that there is no guide from Snapmaker on removing and installing the hotend module - at least I could not find any. Most likely because it is so easy  So @conshus don’t be afraid - it is not complicated. On the Hotend module you need to press the to levers at the top of the module together:

Then gently pull them toward you - the hotend module should become free. You need to tilt it slightly so it disengages from the cradle at the bottom. It is sometimes necessary to wiggle a bit, and the cables on the back may catch on the cradle - moving a bit left and right will get them free. You can then remove the module, and get it back in just the same, insert it into the cradle and snap it back. Make sure that the hotend fully sits in the cradle.

Really appreciate the help @Hauke
Can I pull the hotend out even though I’ve been passing filament through it to print the calibration tests? Do I need to do something to “clean out” the filament in there before trying to take it out?

Thanks again for the help.

Yeah, it is bit confusing because you cannot unload the filament from Software.
Jump back on calibration to the “load Filament” Point with pressing “previous” few Times. Then start the loading, the left hotend will heat up. Open the door and release the lock above the hotend, you will see the feeding gear. Now just pull the filament out and close the lock again.
Wait for left nozzle process finish and do same for right hotend. Power off the machine and take out the Hotends.

To release the gear lock just press the Aluminium lips to each other:

When your Extruder has installed the newer rubber there, that will need some strength.

Thank you for your cooperation!

Hey @Wyphorn and @Hauke
I was able to take out the hotends and put them back in. Unfortunately, the issue persists. The Calibration prints look the same. Please see attached photos The hotends looks fine to as far as I know. I’ve ordered another set of 0.4 nozzles and will give those a try and hopefully they will work.

I’ll let you all know what happens. Thanks again.

Thanks @Sherry
I already have a support ticket in, but wanted to see if anyone else has come across this issue and if it is an easy fix. Going to try the other set of .4 nozzles I purchased and see if it fixes the issues.

Hey @Hauke and @Wyphorn Unfortunately, same issue with the new nozzles. Going to follow up with the support ticket I filed earlier. Thanks again for the help. I’ll reply with what happens.

Just sent support the logs they requested to be exported. To get to that screen, I had to unplug the toolhead cable. The console said that there is a firmware update also. I’m currently on 1.7.5 and the update is version is 2.7.3 Going to update and try the setup again. Hopefully it fixes my issue.

Update: I updated to latest firmware and it then updated the Dual Extrusion Module when I plugged in the Toolhead cable. Tried the initial set up again and got the same issue.

Did you ever tried to switch left/ right hotend?
That worked for me on same error.

Is this a new machine?

Fotos look totally sane to me - can’t spot anything really off… What might help would be a foto taken looking up from below the toolhead, both hotends installed. It would allow to see a misalignment of the nozzles. But it may also be some values totally off - did you try a factory reset?

Hi @ conshus
Here we can find the disassembly and installation procedures of hotends :backhand_index_pointing_right:
https://wiki.snapmaker.com/en/general/troubleshooting/disassemble_hot_end_of_dual_extrusion_module

I had exactly the same issue. Bought my dual extruder for my 2.0 and used it several month. Then I purchased the upgrade version of Artisan and got stuck like @conshus . Saving X worked, Y not.
Hotends had no problem, good aligned, no problem at 2.0, but on Artisan it just failed. Both 0.4 nozzle as recommended.

Support told me to swap nozzles and this did the trick. I attached exactly the same hotends in exactly the same way and calibrating worked without issues. Dunno what this is.

Maybe they know the reason, but not yet fixed it? I mean the last firmware update was month ago, wasnt it?

Hey @Hauke Here you go, I tried to get the photos as straight as possible.

How do I do a factory reset?

Hey @Wyphorn I was hoping that switching the hotends would have fixed my issue. Nope. Same print.
