Ethernet Connectivity

I woukld much prefer to use the Snapmaker U1 via ethernet. It doesn’t look like the U1 will have an ethernet port, so can a USB ethernet adapter be plugged into the USB port at the back? Will this be supported natively or would I need to obtain SSH access to install ethernet adapter drivers?

SSH access for a device running Linux is indeed a must.

I am not sure but USB is announced for memory sticks only, the 2,4GHz WiFi seems to be the only communication channel. Anyway, SSH is available on both WiFi or wired ethernet (if SSH is enabled in FW).

I think there was a RJ45 Port (Lan)?

Nope, @xchrisd . Wifi, USB port, add-on port, what they say is the top cover port, and that’s all she wrote on the test unit.

According to this comment on Kickstarter, the usb port will support usb to RJ45 adapters. I’m not sure if it’s USB 3 to support 1Gb/s or not, but it’ll most likely be faster than 2.4GHz Wi-Fi.

Thank you for the clarification. Do you know what USB specification the USB port is, so we can get an idea of the theoretical link speed?

I was referring to the specification of the USB port on the printer, which appears to now be finalised.

Based on the https://youtu.be/oebvEEOlaTI?si=I5zhZF8Doh8UV62k&t=471, the Artery AT32F403AVGT7 chip is used. The datasheet is here clear - USB 2.0 (with max 480Mbps) is supported only.

Frankly, I don’t see any real benefit here from USB 3.x or Gigabit Ethernet and if the U1’s USB port supports ETH dongles with 100Mbits, it is the perfect solution for such device.

The USB port on the U1 is a Type-A port with 5V output at 0.4A.

As mentioned before, the used Artery AT32F403AVGT7 has USB 2.0 only.

Are there any official updates yet?

I think there is no official new information about this, but I tried it with a simple USB-to-Ethernet adapter and it works without any problems or any special configuration(drivers). If Wi-Fi is disabled on the printer, you can still access the Fluidd web UI, for example.
