Hello, I’ve run into a problem with my USB connectivity and I was wondering if anyone else is experiencing these problems. Specifically, Luban cannot find my printer when plugged in.
Versions:
- Using latest Snapmaker firmware (V1.10.1)
- Using Luban 3.10.2
- Windows 10.0.19041
The reason why I believe this is likely a software problem is because USB connectivity worked just fine a month or so ago when I last printed. I’m using the same exact cable so it’s very unlikely to be a cable problem. When I last printed, I was using the latest Snapmaker firmware (I believe that was V1.10.0 at the time) and Luban 3.8. I am using a new laptop since last time, but this shouldn’t make a difference. I have also rebooted both the laptop and printer several times.
WiFi connectivity works fine and I would much prefer to use WiFi, but many gcode commands that I need like m503 don’t work over WiFi (which I think is a huge oversight, especially since these commands fail silently without indicating to the user that this was actually an intentional design decision).
This is what Device Manager shows when the printer is connected:

Not an answer but a workaround with benefits: have you considered Octoprint? Spend $50 on a raspberry pi 4, and set that up with octoprint and connect it to your printer over USB. Not only will this let you have your laptop actually be mobile like a laptop, go to sleep or install updates without ruining a print job – but there are a lot of other benefits besides. Cool and useful features such as time lapse photography, mobile access etc.

Actually it does. Windows needs to install the driver for the serial port (over usb). Since a few months windows no longer does this automatically. And this usb-serial driver is not by default included in windows.
So head over to windows update and check for updates. (best while connected to your snapmaker) There should be optional or extra updates for this device. After doing that it should work.

I forgot to mention that I did try right-clicking on the device in Device Manager and searching for updates. It pretty much immediately fails and says a driver can’t be found. However, I haven’t specifically checked for updates via the “Check for updates” option like you’re saying, so I’ll connect my Snapmaker and give that a shot. Thanks!
Yea the driver is weird. Automatically installed on my laptop, I had to manually install on my desktop. https://snapmaker.com/product/snapmaker-2/downloads CH340 driver is down the page a bit, worked for me.

Wow, that worked immediately. Thanks a ton! Seems like Windows still can’t figure it out but directly downloading and installing works. I thought those were alternative Luban download links since I didn’t read the fine print.

I stumbled across an old laptop and thought “Wow, I can finally properly configure my e-steps and k-factors!” but I seem to have run into the same problem as Jameracho… though with the added complication of running under Windows 7. I installed the CH340 drivers but I’m not sure that they’re applicable to this version of windows. Is this an SOL sort of situation or has anyone successfully connect their Snapmaker via USB to a computer running Windows 7?
Supposedly those drivers have been tested on Windows 7. Give that a shot and if that doesn’t work I don’t know.

Okay, I made the bad assumption that the touch screen needed to be unplugged and the PC plugged into that port. After noticing the other port next to that plug, things worked much better
