That seems excessive. Can’t see from your picture, but I would check and see if the hole where the filament enters is beveled properly and isn’t sharp. Also make sure the filament roll isn’t binding causing it to pull against the edge. Lastly make sure your filament isn’t old or wet and become brittle.
Some people have had issues with dust on filament leading to nozzle clogs.
There are various way people attach a piece of cloth, or foam to ‘wipe’ the filament before it enters the housing.
I personally haven’t had any problem with it.

I’ll try a sponge. It has done that from day 1, so unless the filament came brittle it should be the bevel. It feels good on the outside, but i can’t reach the inner bevel to check there.
I could try adding a piece of foam, but it worries me that it could be eaten by the extruder.

If that doesn’t work, maybe try setting up a camera to watch it for a bit to try to figure out where exactly the dust is coming from? In the picture they look like big shards which to me sounds like the filament is being stripped by something like sdj mentioned
If this is the SM filament, than that could explain a lot.
A lot of people having issues that went away as soon as they switched filaments.
It’s been crap for a lot of people.
