Prints freezing randomly

Hi,

I’m getting this issue regularly (but not always) during 3D printing on the A350: Print freezes in place, touchscreen in either blank or showing last status but not reacting.
The printer’s firmware has been updated several times, none of the updates addressed this issue.
I use internal storage for prints after having uploaded the gcode with Luban over wireless connection.
The freeze does not happen only with certain 3d models, also size of the printjob does not matter, although it happens more often on larger prints. And it does not always happen at the same time into the print.
Simply turning off the printer and back on again does not help, usually it won’t boot. Turning it off, pulling out the powercord and let the printer cool down however usually does the trick. After that the firmware boots and treats it as a power failure and asks to resume. Which it usually does (but not always).
Sometimes freeze-ups happen multiple times during a printjob.
I have a strong impression this is somehow related to the microcontroller of the printer getting too hot? Even though the room’s temperature is regulated to 20°C.

Has anyone had this too? Can this be solved?

@Orotek,
I think I read somewhere that the internal memory is not very large, have you ever tried to delete the print data on the controller and only load a print file there in the internal memory !??
And then start this one print !?

Do not know if that helps but would be worth a try!

Export your log files over the touchscreen to a usb thumb drive and upload it here.

Yes, i cleaned up all the prints stored. Doesn’t make a difference.

It crashed again. 5th time this print i think. And this time it did not ask to resume :frowning: over 70 hour print, had about 10 to 15 more hours to go. All to waste
Including the logs with this post.

Are you copying the GCode to the TouchPad via WiFi? Or are you printing from a USB drive?

I’m sending it over WiFi from the Luban Slicer

The WiFi connection to the TouchPad has never been stable, and can lead to print failures. Try coping the GCode to a USB drive and print directly from it. If that fails, the file is too large, and you’ll need to reduce the file size.

More info:
I found the A350 frozen again (as i said in previous post) turned off power, unplugged the power and waited about 5min. plugged it back in and turned it on, and it booted to the main screen without a notification of powerloss and the option to continue printing. This is where i extracted the logs i posted above onto a USB drive. For the heck of it, i turned it off again, unplugged it, waited a couple minutes and turned it back on. It froze during boot on the Snapmaker logo. Turned it back off again, unplugged it and waited a couple minutes. Turned it back on and now it did give the powerloss notification and option to resume. So now it is printing again from where it left off.

You’ll need to contact Support, as this forum is only Snapmaker owners.

Hey, unfotunately your log files didn´t say anything about a failure…
Only for comparison, you upload from luban over wifi and finally start the print from the touchscreen, right?
If this is the case, i guess, your touchscreen has some sort of problem and you will have to reach out to support.
Is the USB-C connector pushed in deeply?

Indeed, i upload the file from Luban to the A350, Accept it on the touchscreen. I then disconnect the Luban session and start the print from the touchscreen.
I just checked, and the USB-C is in until it ‘clicks’, so i guess that it is probably not a ‘loose wire’.

If all connectors connected correctly you have to reach out to support, i have no more idea…
I guess you have a defective controller.

As suggested, i contacted support. A new Display unit was sent. I’ve been printing models that almost certainly would suffer freeze-ups. And so far none have occured. To put into estimates expressed in %: chance of freeze-up went from 90% to 0%.

I’m a happy maker now
