An unfortunate design choice. This should have been loudly called out in the manual.
Now that we know (and in my case before I received the laser module, so no harm done) I just lightly threaded the 10mm bolts back into the removed print head as a reminder before installing the laser module with the provided 8mm lengths. It still presses back into the foam holder in the packaging for storage that way just fine…
