Hello, I am brand new to the 3D printing world. Just got the J1 this last week. I have updated to the latest firmware, ran multiple calibrations, and even adjusted belts with printed belt adjusters, but am still getting some weird printing defects. (See first 2 pics) I have increased the z axis which has improved the print but not resolved the issue. (See last 3 pics) Settings at default (100%) on all prints. When I do the ship on mirror mode I have noted a minutely better print form the right extruder. Should I be making any adjustments in the settings since these are smaller items? Does anyone have any settings that make the boat come out better? Looking for any direction to help resolve the issue. Thank you for your time. Happy printing!
I just started playing with mine yesterday. For some reason, I didn’t get thru all the calibration steps the first time and when I tried to print the sample, I just got a birds nest. I turned it off, took a break and went back and ran through the calibration again. This time there were a couple extra steps that I either skipped or didn’t show themselves the first time. It works perfectly now. I do leave the top off for the PLA printing. Your print looks like it has a large layer height. Not knowing what temps, settings, it’s hard to access where to go next.
Now if I can sort out a slicer.
For the Slicer, I recommend getting started with Ultimaker’s Cura. Once you have that, you’ll also want the latest version of the Snapmaker J1 plugin for Cura - at the time of this writing, that release is 0.4.0. Be sure to follow the Plugin installation instructions as the plugin needs to be installed manually still.
With Cura 5.2 - Help does not give you the plug-ins , you have go through the directory and download it. Then restart Cura
I have Cura 5.2 installed and also have the J1 plugin installed. The boats were printed through the printer itself as they were default loaded. Is it not a good idea to print through the screen without going through Cura first? I have attempted multiple types of prints through Cura and still am unable to get a clean print. Attached are some additional pictures. I am not familiar with Cura and or know exactly which settings to tinker with being as this is my first 3D printer. With the Moai body I changed the profile from normal to fine and sent to the printer. Note that the white filament is left and orange is right extruders. The Mascot was reduced by size 50% and also changed profile from normal to fine. Suggestions on which settings I should tweak first through Cura would be greatly appreciated. Also does anyone know of any good troubleshooting tutorials? Something like a IF/THEN would help me greatly. Also I feel like something is going on with the left extruder as it does not print as cleanly as the right. Suggestions on how and what to check with that extruder would also be appreciated.
I’ve been playing with a few of my previous prints sliced with Cura and downloaded via Wi-Fi to the J1. They were as good as I get with my Prusa. Currently I’m doing a 9 hr test print with right extruder and tree supports with the left extruder. 40% through the print I’m very satisfied. Tomorrow I’ll try printing withPETG with is my preferred filament and PVA for the supports.
There are a number of test prints available to test different printing issues - All3dp is a good source
