New Rotary Module installation failure

Hello! I hate that my first post here is a problem, but here it goes, and perhaps someone can enlighten me to the direction I need to take with this. I have tried to search the forums and reddit to find my answer, but I can’t seem to find anything that is close to what I’m experiencing.

I received the rotary module a few months ago, but I’m just now getting around to installing it. I followed the Quick Start guide (seemed simple enough), bolted the head to the wasteboard as instructed and plugged the connector into ‘Addon 2’, as per the instructions.

When I turn on the machine, a clicking sound is coming from the rotary module. I have isolated the sound to the rotary module, but disconnecting it from the machine and turning it back on. It’s definitely the rotary head.
I thought maybe the head need to be updated, so I loaded the latest firmware (1.14.2) onto a USB and ran the update. A horrible grinding noise comes from the rotary module at this point and it does it every time the update goes through ‘a process’. I let the update finish after I put earplugs in and restarted the power. On first boot, when it goes to check all the modules, the grinding noise happens again, but briefly, and then goes back to clicking.

Clearly something is wrong. Even the indicator dot next to the Rotary Module listing on the Home screen is YELLOW. It seems to know it exists, but there’s a problem. Furthermore, the new options in the swipe menu are not available (even after the firmware update).

All other functions of the machine work great and have great success with CNC, 3D printing, and laser projects. It’s just this brand new rotary module. I feel like I got a bad one, but I wanted to see if there was something I could do before I sent in a RMF.

Machine and Addons I have:

  • Updated firmware to 1.14.2
  • A350
  • Upgraded Linear modules
  • Upgraded Power Module
  • Enclosure
  • Exterior Can bus add on
  • Emergency Stop button

I do not have the Air Filter add on and I still have the original version of the mounting plate (star design, not square).

Side note: how can I get the square mounting platform? I don’t see it on the store as an individual item to purchase.

Thanks in advance. You all seem to be very helpful solving problems for folks. I hope this enough information. Let me know if I need to provide more.

Minor update: I tried to do some troubleshooting in the Luban console. This fault exists in the output:

0x000010000	10000000000000000	1<<16	BED SHORT CIRCUIT

I would suggest that you contact support and have it replaced under warranty

Yeah. That’s what I thought. bummer.
