Modifying the Laser Work Speed

Hello,

I have seen a few topics discussing changing the M203 to speed up the laser work speed. I tried that and it didn’t work so I think I did something wrong. When changing the M203 do you keep it in mm/s or write it in mm/m? I typed in M203 X9000 Y9000 but I’m sure that was incorrect. I would really love to be able to laser at a faster speed. For instance I have an Ortur LM2 that can engrave a 4x4 tile in a little over an hour depending on design. That same 4x4 tile will take around 6-8 hours on the SM2.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated so thank you in advance.

The default is in mm/s and is 150, which is the maximum the machine is capable of moving without skipping steps. Also that is screamin fast and not appropriate for a laser work speed. I’m not 100% sure what you’re trying to do but M203 is not the right place to be changing settings.

You are probably having the same issue as this: Snapmaker 2 Dwell setting Gcode G4:Px and Laser Speed

I thought the M203 setting was what would change the speed but I recognize a familiar name in the forum topic you directed me to. Maybe I could try your firmware as well and see if that helps because it is very frustrating. I purchased the OLM2 after I got this machine because I saw how fast non SM2 lasers were going. I understand there will be some limitations because it is a 3 in 1 but 6 hours minimum for a 4x4 tile seems excessive.

Please let me know if I can get a link to your firmware to try.

Thank you!

OLM2 uses GRBL firmware, which supports modifying the laser power inline, as mentioned in that other forum post a feature added to Marlin after Snapmaker diverged from it, but my firmware adds back in. I’ll add you to the PM for now.
