Loud Rubbing Noise

My Snapmaker started making a loud rubbing noise when running. It’s very loud, but hard to locate the source. Anybody else experienced similar? Have a fix? The noise is pretty constant whenever the print head moves.

I think, I am also getting similar behavior as far as the sound goes.
I will explain my situation a little more, in case you find it helpful.
But I do not have any solution for you.

Suddenly my Snapmaker (Original) stopped working.
When I turn it on the fan in the controller and 3D printing head works.
Touch pad is blank, and the
USB serial cable from controller to computer does not get any response from the computer.
After keeping it on for some time, suddenly the computer recognizes Snapmaker,
with the familiar “new device recognized” bell.

I fired up Snapmakerjs and start printing, when it started printing,
it started making this loud rubbing noise, you mentioned.
After 5-6 seconds the sound went away.

In my case, Snapmaker USB port again got disconnected from the computer and
the Touch display also died.

Hope that helps.

For zeveck, does it make the noise when you use the jog mode on the controller? That might help you isolate it to an individual module.

There’s an old post with a video. Is your sound similar? It’s kind of hard to hear, but in the video I hear some kind of humming with travel on the ±Y axis. That post says a little WD-40 cleared up the noise, although they never posted a followup.

It does seem like the original linear modules are going to need some lubricant at some point. In my opinion, WD-40 isn’t the right choice for that. I’d go with the Snapmaker recommendations.
