Firmware update help

Hi, I gave up on my machine after several failed attempts in 2021 when I purchased it, and now I want to revisit or lose the machine. I am trying to print 3d designs, but I can’t get the touchscreen to work, I only get the ‘S’ logo upon start up. I can’t update the firmware because the screen won’t work, and I can’t get the screen to work because it needs an update. Catch 22. I’ve been emailing back and forth with tech support, but It’s slow going because they are opposites of my time zone so when they help, its about 24 hours later, so I am hoping someone here has a solution I might try. I can’t make the Wi-Fi connect, so I use a cable. I can do a project, but I can’t calibrate, and it needs it. someone please help! OR>>> if I can sell the thing on here, I would be open to that as well, and then I can buy one that actually works. Not many hours on the 2.0 A350 with enclosure. It’s like new.

If you have a faulty screen or screen connector you could purchase one in the store.
Is there only the S showing up, this is not much…

Did you try booting the machine with different modules? Perhaps it gets stuck because the toolhead is faulty or so…

on my machine i

turn on the power supply and the fan starts up high then slows down. i then get the S. a second or two later the enclosure wakes up turns on the lights then turn them off. the S is still there and the machine does more startup stuff. the S turns into the snapmaker text. more time. the enclosure turns on and the screen is ready to work.

im amazed that you can do a project over wire with the touchscreen stuck on S. since you can do a project there would be an assumption that the rails and print module are good. that leaves the only thing i can “test” is the enclosure. so what happens when you disconnect the enclosure cable from the controller?

when you start up do you see the momentary enclosure lights turn on and off?

If you connect with serial connection over usb you should be able to see the startup log.
Connected rails, modules and stuff.

Maybe share these lines?

There is only the “s” for a few seconds, the lights from the enclosure flash, the fan briefly comes on, then nothing else. I cannot get the screen to come after that.

Hi, and thank you for your reply! Yes, the ‘s’ pops up briefly, the lights flash, and the fan blows for a second and then the machine goes quiet. I cant get anything else from the screen after that. I have disconnected all the modules but the power and the screen, started up, and the same thing happens. The firmware updates on the usb and usb flash won’t work unless the screen will work. And the screen will not come on past the little brief ‘s’.

Ok, i will share these

now im guessing based on what ive heard so far. since it prints and you can talk to it serially. i would say that the touchscreen itself has corrupted software or data. its an android device. it would have a boot sequence then hand operation over to an app that has been preinstalled. the hardware itself may not be bad per se. it may just need reprogramming.

my punt would be to get a new touchscreen and cable.

I was afraid of that! I didnt want to put any money into it, i really want to sell it and get one thats not so finicky and faster. I want to teach my grandkids how to use it, but it is pretty complicated compared to the flashforge. Thank you for your replies! I really appreciate this :star_struck:

no worries.however, it is a lot of machine to lose over a touchscreen. you may want to contact support to see if they can find a way to help without the expense.

yeah can’t fix faster…but ive found that my machine just keeps doing what was expected (except when it didn’t  its more about me getting a muscle memory of how things work. something my grandkids would adapt to faster then most if i let them.

for creativity and workspace i really like using all the modules to do various things. its not just one machine.

Good Luck!!!

Thank you so much for the support :heartbeat: i have been emailing with tech support all week, that’s how i got all the info on trying new things to make it work (the times are opposite of mine, so its slow going). The last thing to try from support is cutting 1mm from the connector to see if it will connect better. In my opinion, it is connecting, so i don’t think it would make a huge difference, but what do i know? It does flash the ‘s’ briefly so i know it has power, but it may be so far behind in firmware updates that it needs to be replaced.
Tech support is great, but it’s tediously slow when corresponding through email, thats why i reached out to the community. The machine has just been sitting since I’m guessing, 2021. I can’t even tell how many updates it has already performed, or how many are needed. The software is up to date, i know that much.
The machine takes up considerable real estate on my work table so i needs to start paying for itself instead of collecting dust  thats the real issue.

These cut of 1mm at the connector would be the next suggestion to try
There were also bad solder points which could cause the same issue.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! I got the machine to work!!! So happy  its not working perfect, but at least the screen works now and igot the updates for the firmware all downloaded :grinning: i appreciate this community so much!

So… what was the solution in the end? curious

This is the problem by asking the same thing in different threads…
I think it was the removed rubber at the touchscreen connector:

I cut the recommended amount of plastic from the touchscreen connector, and it pushed in and engaged, making the touchscreen work! I’m having other issues, but this is awesome! At least I was capable of making the firmware up to date! I completed my first 3D project, albeit rough, but hey, goal accomplished. Thank you so .uchto all of the community that supported my repair journey!

Cutting off "just the tip " 1mm rubber from the connector for the touchscreen. It wasn’t connecting.
