Failed calibration and new hot end bought and replaced

I replaced my left hot end and only have had it for a couple weeks and have noticed leaking from the nozzle I have also tried to recalibrate my machine and it fails every time I have even did a factory reset with no success any body have any tips I’m ready to give up on this machine it’s the j1 and the message says check axis to make sure it can move freely and to make sure the nozzle head is not clogged

What machine do you have?

What machine and what error occurs?

I have the j1 and any of the calibration fails it says to make sure to check if axis can move freely and that the machine will return home

Thanks

So the problem occured weeks after you replaced the nozzle? Or did it come up right after the change?

The error sounds like something is moving the extruder properly to it’s home position.
I would try to go back to the previous hotend to see if the problem comes up again.

Here is the wiki entry for exchanging the hotend:

same issue, replaced the hot end, now calibration fails on my j1s

Some of the calibration routines will fail with that error message if the bed is too far out of adjustment when the routine starts. I have had that problem with “Bed Leveling”. After sensing the first point, the bed moves down a bit, the head moves to the front left corner, then starts to come back up. If the corner is MUCH too low, it stops before the head touches it, and gives the “Calibration Failed” message. Turn the wheel until the bed touches the nozzle, then try again.

  • I tried again and again until it worked, still not sure what the issue was (I just removed the head, added some “Contact 60” just in case)
  • also for a while now (before head replacement), even after calibration, the bed is a bit too high and the head grinds slightly on it, you can hear that weird noise as it prints

so I lower the bed during printing… not sure what is causing that issue, calibration was working fine before

You may need to slightly adjust either the z offset (this takes effect whenever you adjust it) or adjust your Bed Thickness on screen (this is used to make the correction at the time you do the calibration only, so you don’t need to adjust z offset every time you do calibration, if the bed is slightly different).

You should be able to tell, if the first layer is too smashed into the plate. Then it’s actually too close. If it isn’t quite adhering then it may be too far away.

same bed, I never used another one

Ok. But if you’ve never carefully adjusted the bed thickness, the factory setting may not be quite right. I know I got better results adjusting mine about 0.1mm since I was consistently too high after bed leveling otherwise.
