Experimenting with ASA material shrinkage on the U1

In case I didn’t say it loud enough, since I’ve now seen it suggested elsewhere, I personally do not recommend using a BentoBox with the U1.

For two reasons.

  1. Efficacy. It’s not obvious to me the BentoBox pulls enough volume, even using my 2x4028 fans, to have a meaningful effect on VOCs for the U1. To be fair, I haven’t analyzed it that closely, but for the raw volume the U1 with a cover encloses, the air exchange rate/flow I estimate including pressure drop from the carbon and HEPA suggests much more flow than it offers.
  2. Jams. If there’s a box like this inside the printer you must be sure it cannot move. The J1S community has a few horror stories from modders who got spool holders jammed under their beds as it lowered while printing, when it shifted slightly and they weren’t looking. An air filter is less likely to move, but accidents happen. You really don’t want that to happen to your shiny new U1. :face_holding_back_tears:

I look forward to other solutions provided by both Snapmaker and the community. But I think a unit located up and out of the way of the print bed sounds more appealing.

Cheers!
