A350 Broken Linear Module Club - X Axis Cable Wrapped Around Z Tower

Well, it’s been fun, and now I also have a broken module, but in a new, and interesting way that I haven’t seen on the forum yet. Edit: This is on an A350.

Been using this for quite some time, with no issues. Suddenly, when the homing procedure ran, the X axis cable decided to wrap itself around the Z tower, and ripped the cable out the end when the Z height lowered.

I was able to verify continuity and dielectric and it appears the cable is functional for now, but has clearly been stressed, am asking support for a replacement cable.

So many problems with wiring, if only they had designed better wire management they could have saved themselves alot of trouble.

Some of the cables are as stiff as an ironing board. I have not yet figured out whether the plasticizer is missing or the individual wires are too thick. But with the heating cable and the connection from the power supply unit, I can see even more breaks. For the power supply, the only thing that helps is a fixed installation in a housing. With the heating bed, the cable is too short to mount a sensible energy chain. I put the X-axis cable in a loop using a rubber ring so that it doesn’t get tangled.2020-10-18-180245

Yes I recognized many coard deficiencies while assembling my A350. I was unhappy that SM took their modular approach as an excuse to not think of wire management in the least. Some wires are too short, some too long, in reality they should have put plugs on all the modules as well, so that we could have bought or built different lengthen wires to fit our needs.

Did you see the cable holder in the toolbox?

Does the linear module work normally now?

This holder is for the cable from the tool head.
With brent113, the X-axis cable was pulled around the Z-axis. Only a second holder or a shortening of the cable can help here.

@Edwin, as @Toxic noticed that holder is not used for the X-Axis, per instruction manual. If it should be, consider a revision to the instruction manual, or provide additional cable routing instructions.

I found a better cable routing by running the X-axis cable out of the controller, down around the other axis connectors, and back up. The other cables take up the slack so it cannot go up and around the top of the Z axis.

Which model was this on?
