A350 Z-axis stuck at one end

Greetings,

Today after finishing a 3d print I found the z-axis in the middle position. I tried homing it but it seems stuck at one end. I switched the machine off and on again but didn’t work out.

What could be the problem? and is there a quick way to fix it?

Thanks

Yasa

File a support ticket and get the module replaced under warranty.

It’s either dead or there’s a problem with one of the limit switches.
Contact support and they’ll either tell you to open it up to check it or they’ll replace it.

Thanks for your reply @eh9 @sdj544
I’ve raised it to support and awaiting their reply.
I’ve removed the x-axis and tried to move the z-axis; one side moved and the other didn’t, so it seems that one side it dead

You can try (with power off) unplugging and replugging all your cables (don’t just make sure they’re seated, actually unplug them.) For a lot of people that seems to work.

You can also try plugging each axis separately into the x-axis port and see if they work individually. (make sure they’re uncoupled doing this.

Thanks sdj544

I’ll try that.

Support just came back saying the linear module is damaged and need to be changed. The problem it’s just over 1 year already so the warranty is over it is going to cost me over 150 usd.

So at this point you can ether decide to replace the one rail or upgrade (sidegrade? downgrade?) to the all new rails. The price for all 5 with the 50% discount isn’t much more than the price of 2 old rails.
Not sure if there’s a backorder on new ones. Maybe ask support?

you are right sdj544.

Though I’m disappointed of the quality of the machine. I’m not a heavy user. I didn’t use the CNC module yet. Even the laser engraver I just used it for 30 mins to test it. I was only using it for 3d printing over the past year and I consumed just 2 KG of filament over the past period (I don’t think this is heavy usage). The machine is kept in a well ventilated room and within the closure all the time.
Would I be expecting to change these every year??

I’ve been running the original rails with heavy cnc usage for more than a year and a half with no problems. (hope I didn’t just jinx myself). Well, no problems other than having to adjust the play in the brackets.
So who knows. There seems to be a lot of variance in problems and QC. There was a batch of rails around Sept. '20 that kept burning out and had major problems. Haven’t heard of anything like that for awhile. Mostly just Luban and firmware issues now.

then it’s possible that I had a bad batch. Probably it took longer to malfunction.
I’m checking with support again, if they would replace it for me.

thanks anyways for your feedback

well support came back saying that don’t similar cases so it can’t be a problem with a certain batch, so they won’t exchange the module and I have to pay for it. This makes me more worried as it means overtime more and more issues will arise I received the machine just around end of October 2020, so it’s almost now 1 year and 3 months old. With my minimum usage, I’ve already had to replace the heated bed last month and I had to pay for it and now this issue. Honestly; I’m very reluctant to invest more in snapmaker now.

so interestingly, support don’t want to admit there is a problem with the module and don’t want to give any explanation why the module failed with such a minimum usage.
