A350 3D "squishing" layers at same point

I have printed with some ABS in the past, but not recently.

Had a job that was suited for ABS so put a new roll in. Started print, and about 25mm up it the print had a distinct line, like the filament squished out on the sides.

Stopped that print and started a new one with DIFFERENT parameters, and the same thing happened again at the same spot, and now it has another ring at about 100mm. Otherwise, the print looks great.

Any ideas on what’s causing this?

Thanks!

Warping could cause this kind of issue.
Is it visible all around?

Maybe a problem with the Z axis modules.
The rest of it doesn’t look great either.

I hadn’t checked the back side of it, and when I just checked, it was split on the back side.

Arrrgggghhhh… May have to abandon ABS with a model that high.

Thanks for the obvious check. Should have checked that first ..

I haven’t taken it off of the bed yet, but it doesn’t appear all that bad. This is hast and rough heights as well, so it looks like what I would expect it to look like…

i see 3 rings a top, a middle, and one near the bed. is it possible that your stl has a small gap at these places? its as if the abs is just spitting for a layer. in any case im thinking the artifacts are too regular to be things like the bed moving. maybe a closer inspection of the stl is in order.

Good thoughts…

It’s not in the STL. Sliced it again with Cura, and printing again, and the artifacts are not there.

I actually believe that it has most to do with ABS. This was a 56 hour print, and that was part of the problem. Just too long, too much cooling, etc.

Found a way to print it with less inside structure, bigger nozzle (which may be helping more than anything), and faster speed. So far, looking much better.

Thanks for the input!

cool. looking forward to seeing your changes work

LOL, so am I. About $30 in ABS so far, :winking_face_with_tongue:
