Z Offset Calibration - First Layer Issues

I can’t seem to properly calibrate my Z offset. Probably some n00b thing I’m missing.

When I reach the final point from auto calibration, I go down until I reach the paper, then in .05mm increments from there.

I continue until the paper bends as I keep pushing and pulling it from under the nozzle.

Then I back off .05mm

The problem I have is that if I do that, I get elephant’s foot. If I go up another .05mm I don’t get adhesion.

Is there a way to edit this after calibration? Should I be compensating in some other way?

It’d be really useful to have finer resolution than .05mm when calibrating this.

You can adjust it further after calibration (even while printing) with the z offset. Also keep in mind the SM suffers from backlash, so when you go down by .05 it moves down accurately, however if you go up by .05 it will actually go up a little further than .05. So try not to back it off. And if you do need to back it of by .5 and bring it back down slowly.
