When doing laser cutout do you need sacrificial wood

I know with the CNC if you’re going to cut all the way, you need sacrificial wood. But do you need it if you’re cutting something with the laser?

My Opinion, I don’t believe so. The black metal grid should be OK from a travel ling laser that may have cut through the would. Hopefully Snapmaker can verify this. @Rainie

The original doesn’t have a black plate. It’s plate is gray. What I was worried with is if it is possible for it to reflect the laser back into the tool

I doubt you would have a problem. If concerned, use a sacrificial base; something like a thin plywood, 1 - 2 mm thick.
