Snapmaker Ray Alignment Fixture

I purchased a 40w Ray with enclosure recently and love it. The only issue I’ve noticed is that there is no floor to the enclosure, which means the rails for the Ray and the bed are just sitting loosely inside the enclosure. Aligning the bed is simple enough, but since both systems are just loose, it is very easy for one or both to get bumped when loading/unloading large pieces of material, causing them to lose alignment right before you begin an engraving. For precision work, this can be problematic.

I planned on making a base for the enclosure that would have cutouts for the feet of the Ray rails and the work table to ensure alignment and proper positioning, but figured I’d reach out here before reinventing the wheel in case someone else had already come up with a solution. If anyone knows of a solution that already exists, it would be greatly appreciated. If not, when I design and make mine, I’m happy to report back with it for anyone that would like it.

Thanks!

Someone else asked a very similar question a while back. My solution was to place the whole machine on a piece of ply, (I don’t have an enclosure), and mark where the feet of the machine and the feet of the cutting board sit, so that I could always place them back into position if moved.
Not as elegant or precise as your plan, however I don’t do that much precise work.

Post up what you do with the cut-outs after you’re done. Be interesting to see.

I’ve done the same as TK4132. I placed a piece of plywood underneath just to ensure if something did get misaligned I wouldn’t be cutting into the table below.

If you do get around to designing something with recesses for the feet of the rails and bed, I’d be very interested to see it! I keep meaning to design something but other things keep coming up instead.
