I currently use Klipper on my Modified Ender 3 with PrusaSlicer with remote upload and starting of prints.
PrusaSlicer supports the Prusa XL which is a toolchanger.
Orcaslicer has some minor issues (poor translation, dependency on Bambu Labs) so I am skeptical of using it and would prefer not to learn new software.
I won’t bother using Snapmaker’s version of OrcaSlicer as I have other printers and want to use one slicer for all of them.
Will a profile for PrusaSlicer be provided for the U1 at launch?
i ‘translated’ the gcode from orcaslicer’s naming into Prusa and Superslicer’s naming. they have different ways of saying the nozzle temperature and bed temperature and other uses of ‘IF’ statements and when to use {} or . ill see if they work properly when the machine comes out, ill be using a the support and multi material settings off of a PrusaXL and everything else will be changed probably
Currently, we do not have plans to provide a PrusaSlicer profile for the U1. The recommended slicer for the U1 is Snapmaker Orca.
If you would like to try the U1 profile before the official release, you can download the Snapmaker Orca Nightly Build from GitHub. Please note that this version is still in development and may contain bugs. Here’s the link: https://github.com/Snapmaker/OrcaSlicer/releases/tag/nightlybuild
Please reconsider… I think I am not the only one using Prusaslicer as a common tool for all my printers. It is much easier to use just one slicer than having to learn another and another again.
I agree. I switched from Simplify3D to Prusaslicer some time ago and have little interest in switching again, there aren’t many compelling reasons to do so. I definitely wouldn’t use Snapmaker Orca over Orca, and given Snapmaker have sent a U1 to SoftFever I would expect all important changes to be merged.
Having said that, I’d much prefer to not have to change slicers again.
@Sherry As I already posted… I will prepare the Prusaslicer when my U1 arrives. Please, sent it ASAP and I prepare the Prusaslicer profiles immediately
We understand many users prefer PrusaSlicer. Currently, Snapmaker Orca is the recommended slicer for U1. Your feedback is appreciated and has been shared with our product team for consideration. You can also try the Snapmaker Orca Nightly Build if you want to explore U1 slicing before the official release.
Frankly, I cannot recommend to use Snapmaker Orca for U1 now - there is no U1 profile yet (check your GitHub ). At the moment, the only slicer with some U1 profiles is the original Orcaslicer (Nightly build).
Again, please consider to contribute to the original Orcaslicer only and not to continue your own fork. I am almost sure that the (potential) sponsoring can have more benefits for Snapmaker than own fork of slicer, which is almost unknown outside the current Snapmaker’s community and (my estimation) used by few users.
From what I understand, the U1 profile is somehow already also in mainstream OrcaSlicer but might not yet be complete. (Something about the device and print tabs not having all features?)
Some of us also asked about Cura, coming from the J1s and other printers. Not to apologize on behalf of SM, but in fairness to them so many printers only officially provide profiles to a slicer of their choice. Heck, I don’t think even Bambu provides anything outside of Bambu Studio, or Prusa for PrusaSlicer? (May be wrong on that.)
Doesn’t seem to stop the community from working it out though. If it could work with Cura, I might like having that option myself.
I am using the recommendable McGybeer profile for the J1 in Prusaslicer (plus smfix for the thumbnails). Something similar for the U1 would be brilliant.
i have a machine profile on Prusaslicer and SuperSlicer i just havent tested them at all because i dont have the machine. when i get it and test it i will be more than happy to share with the community
