PETG oozing and boogers

I have a problem with printing in PETG on the Artisan. Even when just heating the nozzle at 230 deg, and no movement from the extruder, I get a lot of continuous oozing happening.

When printing, I’m constantly getting boogers which snow ball and get pushed around by the extruder as it prints often causing problems with the print, sometimes getting stuck in the print itself creating unsightly large (dime sized) boogers of PETG ooze. This has happened with all PETG. I have tried drying the filament, gone through the whole calibration process several times. I can still get good prints sometimes but I always get the boogers and oozing.

What is happening and what can I do to stop it?

I wish there was a good automatic nozzle wipe solution but it doesn’t seem like anyone has come up with anything good yet.

I find turning down the extrusion multiplier by 1 to 2 percent really cuts down on those boogers during printing. Just don’t go too far or you start to get poor interlayer adhesion.
