I spent roughly the last 6 months making an orrery (a clockwork model of the solar system). I could not have done it without my Snapmaker 2.0. The gears, planet arms, and idler arms are CNC cut from birch plywood. The calendar ring and year ring are laser engraved (the year ring is anodized aluminum). Saturn’s rings and various bearings are 3D printed. The rest of the parts were made using conventional woodworking tools as well as a mini metal lathe.

Fantastic.
Well done you!
Great sharing! Thanks!
It’s funny you posted this. I’m really into wheels and mechanisms right now. You can really do some amazing things with them. But I’m just starting out, trying to understand how it all works. But seeing what you’ve done makes me want to keep learning and trying. Just a question. What kind of wood did you use for the sun. Look really nice.
Thanks for your kind words. The sun is turned from maple burl.
