Hello all; I am back again with a suggestion for Luban. My next project involved etching with the laser onto a very thin substrate of Maple wood. It is around .5mm in thickness and my project required me to etch a design on both sides of the material. The smallest pass depth in a single pass is 0.1mm so at most I had .3mm spare material if the etching was done to a depth of 0.1mm on both sides. This does not leave a lot of room for error, especially with a material like wood which generally is worked with a tolerance of ± 1mm.
I experimented quite a bit with various settings for laser power %, work speed, impurity size (vector only) and dwell time which is only available in greyscale. My request would be for every adjustable parameter to be available in every mode of activity for the laser.
I would find it really useful to have a piece of test material and be able to adjust the laser power, work time and dwell time while it was running. This would help me to understand the way that each control worked and be able to adjust them for a desired effect.
To achieve the completion of my project I have had to run 40 different tests on scrap wood and the last four tests were carried out on a precise duplicate of the material I wanted to etch. The item is a gift and I don’t want to give the recipient a piece of sub-standard work. The project is being engraved as I write this and I will post it on completion in a few hours time.
I very much second adding various patterns!
I’ve had some issues using Cura, so I’m just sticking to the standard Luban infill for now…
But it would be nice to try out different patterns in Luban.
It’d be nice if there was a way to have different infills for the different objects in the print. The goal being that you could overlay 2 prints and get some areas solid and other areas with an infill.
Hey Everybody. Just a couple of suggestions. To be honest I haven’t read through all of these, so if I repeat somebody else’s ideas, then I guess we are of the same mind.
I would love to see two things, a way to add in a pause/resume command at a specific point in 3d printing (for example: filament change)
If the former comes about, then allow painting of the model in different colors/materials with that filament change in mind. (I am sure that using different materials might cause problems, but hopefully the same material type but different color would be less problematic)
