Is a custom module for the Xlaserlab X1/X1Pro possible?

There’s a very interesting laser welder on Kickstarter called the Xlaserlab X1/X1Pro and I’m considering backing the project. One of the features that caught my eye was “modularity”:

The X1 and X1 Pro feature a modular design that allows for seamless integration with additional tools and systems, providing even greater functionality.

I also noted the following disclaimer:

CNC functionality expansion requires advanced engineering knowledge, involving laser equipment modification and modular customization.

Non-professional users should proceed with caution and are not advised to modify it themselves.

Though, I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised that a 400-700W laser vender has disclaimers like this.

Anyway, my mind immediately jumped to my A350 and I started salivating a bit at the thought of making the two kiss, so to speak. I’ve wanted to get into welding for a while and this is probably over-kill, but the videos I’ve seen suggest that it’s actually a great machine for beginners. I just need to sell my wife on the splurge of it all.

I found a few posts (1, 2, 3) on this forum regarding custom modules. I’m pretty busy right now, so I have yet to dig into any of them, but I thought I’d post this if only to diseminate the idea. Hopefully, I’ll get the time soon to actually read up on what’s involved in building a custom module. Until then, please discuss!

Is such a thing even remotely feasible?
Is there community interest?
Does anyone have experience with equipment like the X1?
If so, do you have any thoughts about what such a module might entail?
What do you imagine will be major obstacles?

I saw this video just the other day. I got burned on a kickstarter once so I’ll wait for the retail unit after some more reviews. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o_S1d0AYW1s
