Free local CAD STEP STL inspection workflow feedback

Hi Snapmaker community,

I am Bassam from ProReadyEngineer. I built a local CAD and model inspection workflow/tool called Pro3DWorks, and I would appreciate practical feedback from people who use third party CAD, slicer, CAM, laser, and CNC software around machines like Snapmaker.

The idea is a quick local inspection step before slicing, laser/CNC prep, or machine setup. It can open common model formats such as STEP, IGES, STL, Parasolid, 3MF, GLB, and OBJ, then help inspect geometry, measure, section, review assemblies, check mass properties, and catch obvious file issues without uploading the model anywhere.

It also has optional AI-assisted review and BOM summary features, but I am especially interested in whether that is actually useful for maker workflows, or whether people would rather keep AI out of model review.

Questions for the group:

- Do you usually inspect CAD or model files before slicing, laser work, or CNC work?

- Which formats matter most here: STL, STEP, 3MF, OBJ, DXF, or something else?

- What problems do you most want to catch before generating toolpaths or print files?

- Would a local/offline inspection workflow be useful, or just another tool in the way?

- Would AI-assisted summaries be helpful, or too risky for model review?

I think preview is the most important feature of a cad/cam CNC or laser slicer.
Especially for a laser file, I think it is difficult to have a correct reference depending on the sort and color of wood.

This sounds like a useful workflow, especially for people moving between different CAD and manufacturing tools. A quick offline check before slicing or CAM could save a lot of wasted time. I’d be most interested in geometry validation, measurements, and catching import issues. AI summaries sound interesting, but accuracy would be the key factor.

Agreed, the offline pre-flight check is the strongest part of the pitch, catching non-manifold edges, flipped normals, gaps, or unit/scale mismatches before you waste time slicing or setting up CAM is genuinely valuable. Geometry validation and reliable measurements are the trustworthy core. On AI summaries, your instinct is right: for CAD/manufacturing, a confidently wrong summary is worse than none, since people act on it. As long as the deterministic checks stay the foundation and AI is clearly a helper layer, that’s the right balance. What formats are you targeting first?
