So I attempted a rather ambitious print for my A350… I was affraid of this happening, the file claimed no supports were necessary, and being a newbie (this is my 3rd ever print) I didn’t question it, though I should have, especially looking at the previous makes all of them were tiny while mine is huge (pretty much scaled it so it was just about as tall as my A350 could possibly print). Would there be a way to fix this or should I just call this a lesson learned?
You can’t really fix it now. The best you could do is print the piece that’s missing, and super glue it on. Luban won’t let you edit the model, so you’ll need another tool for that.
“No supports” varies from printer to printer, and depends on the settings. For example, on my v1, I can print up to 60º overhangs with a 0.1mm layer height, but only 50º overhangs with a 0.2mm layer height. It very well could’ve been fine at the original size, but require supports at the larger size.
After you generate the GCode, Luban has a layer slider you can use to examine print head movements. It’s the vertical bar on right side of the 3D workspace, between the view DPad (upper right) and print volume & time (lower right). Any time I see a model that claims no supports, I like to run the slider up and down to see if I can spot the print head printing in open space. Once you’ve clicked on the slider, you can use the up and down arrows to move a single layer at a time.
If you link the model and the size you printed at (either percentage scale or absolute height), I’d be happy to take a look and offer suggestions. And don’t feel bad, everybody learns about supports the hard way.
