Error when loading file from for CNC from Fusion 360

Hi - I am new to using the Snapmaker CNC-module, but after a successful first run with the provided CNC-project I have tried to look into using Fusion 360. My aim is to mill wood from 3D models. I have loaded my model into Fusion 360, set it up with the snapmaker.cps file and loaded the Snapmaker 2.0 CNC Tool Library.tools file. Post processing seems to work fine and I generate a .cnc file successfully. But when I try to load this file from the USB stick I consistently get the same error: “This file type is not matched with the tool head”

I am not sure if this is referring to the CNC as a tool head or the specific CNC tool. I am using the 3.175 ball end mill and this is also selected in the Fusion 360 setup.

Any advice to understand and hopefully fix this problem is appreciated.

I haven’t run into this issue, but does the touchscreen think a tool head other than the CNC head is attached?

No - it seems to be in the correct CNC mode

Is the file type .cnc?

Post the file if you want us to take a look at it.

Yes, the file type generated from Fusion 360 is a .cnc file. But when loading the file - looking at the icon - it seems to think it is for 3D printing? Even if Operation type Milling is selected in the setup in Fusion 360

This is the file I am trying to load 1006.cnc (1.9 MB)

Looks pretty boring, in the best possible way. I can’t imagine the contents of that file causing an issue.

That’s a weird glitch.

I’m not too bothered by the 3DP icon, I think that’s the universal icon for every process.

I’m just thinking of weird software related glitches that could be popping up here -

  • try starting the file name with a letter instead of a number?
  • try taking out all of the comments in the file? (; lines)
  • try adding an F feedrate parameter to the first G0 instead of F360 using the default speed

Really don’t know, sorry

Also, that’s a nice relief carving - did you do that with the Image2Surface script?

Thanks @brent113 - I’m open to try anything. And good to hear that I am not way off in terms of how this is supposed to work.

The relief is a 3D terrain model in .stl format just loaded into Fusion 360

So far just tried all three of your suggestions @brent113 and at least one of them has made the difference. The file now loads just fine (with a different icon this time) and the milling is started. Thanks!

Interesting! Never noticed that.

I’m leaning on it being the file name, just because other people have ran similar jobs without having to remove the commands and adding the F parameter.

Glad to hear it’s working!
