End of filament and pause action

Just ran into my first end of filament issue during a large print. I tried to pause the print while I noticed the filament was starting to disappear into the top of the print head, but saw now way to reload the new spool during the print. Is there a way to join to pieces of filament together to keep the print moving smoothly?

In theory, you can tack two filament ends together by applying enough heat to soften the plastic (with a cheap soldering iron, for example). In practice, you’d be likely to get a blob in the middle of the filament by doing that, and really, why would you want to? The Snapmaker should pause on its own when the filament runout sensor trips and allow you to load additional filament (assuming that you’re running it in the normal way through the touchscreen). Is yours not doing so?

Just to add on, if you plan to use filament runout recovery definitely test it first to make sure you don’t have issues with it not triggering. There have been some users that had issues with it in the past.

Just start a short print and cut the filament close to the module, then wait for the filament runout recovery screen to pop up. Then, load more filament and make sure it continues properly.

I manually paused the print. Didn’t know about the filament recovery kicking in and pausing the machine. I will to a test with a short piece of filament to test it out.

Thanks!
