Duel 3Dp Head, First Layer

Hi All,

I’ve gotten my duel head 3DP nozzles working well, but one issue I’m having is with the first layer. The first layer is always kinda “rough” and isn’t perfectly seamless. As an example, my last layer on flat objects (like the top of a box for example), is perfectly smooth and you cant really tell that it is an amalgamation of separate lines printed next to each other. The bottom layer however theres gaps between the lines (small though they be). Is there a setting to make the first layer like the last? Or should I just plan to try and scrape this layer of everytime? The 2nd layer prints like the last so I figure its a setting issue rather than a printing failure of some type.

Most times it need a other z offset if your first layer is not as it should.
Try to increase or decrease your offset and see if it gets like you want.
If the first layer is rough it’s too near to the bed, so start with decreasing the offset like from - 0.3mm to - 0.2mm.
There is a lot to read about the first layers, search the forum or www.

Share some pictures to get further information.
Hope this helps!

Adding to xchrisd, see this article: 3D Printing 101: How to Succeed with a Perfect First Layer for Every 3D Print | MatterHackers - scroll down to " Identifying the Perfect First Layer" section and view the photos there - that might help. If the lines of the first layer do not merge well, my guess would be that you need to get closer to the bed.

Ok great that looks like exactly what I’m experiencing so I’ll give that a try. I definitely regularly do the auto bed leveling so never though to mess with the Z offset. Thanks!
