Clicking noise while doing the first couple passes

Recently the 3D printer head has started to make bursts of 3 or 4 clicking noises periodically while making the first 5 or so layers. I can’t figure out why? It’s not hitting or coming in contact with anything. The clicks seem to becoming from within the printer head. They stop after the first couple passes and everything is printing fine, but it makes me nervous that something is broken. I don’t want it to get worse. It kind of sounds like gears slipping?

Any suggestions?

Is your filament grinding?

Ahh, hmm. I will look into this. It could be.

I’ll check these items. The first layer seems good, but it could be the flow rate for sure. I’m not sure how to calibrate the E-steps. I’ll have to learn what that is. I’m a bit of a noob. I’ve only been doing this for a couple months.
