I just spent hours trying to understand why I couldn’t use the camera capture laser setup in Luban while connected to the unit. Turns out, you have to use the wifi connection method and not the USB cable.
My SM 2.0 is in my office at work. IT won’t let me register the device for connection to the regular network, and inter-device connections on the guest network aren’t allowed without using the VPN to do it over the regular network. I’m also not allowed to bring in my own wifi router/AP because it creates an unsecured network behind their secured network (their words, not mine).
So, I’m sure there’s a reason for why this is the way it is. It’s not like USB connections can’t handle the throughput of digital imagery - see every webcam ever made since 2004 as evidence.
The work origin method works, for now I guess, but why can’t I use the camera and skip the added trial and error of that?
Unfortunately a decision was made in the design of the hardware that makes it an impossibility. There are a couple threads discussing this issue, so I’m not going to go into detail again here.
A lot of us find camera capture to be badly implemented and pretty useless. Faster and easier and more accurate ways to position things.
It will be interesting to see how much (if?) the new 10w has improved the camera capture. They’ve implied it’s better but with SM, who knows. Perhaps they’ve changed where it will allow usb connection and possibly even it’s use within Lightburn.
