Artisan Rebooting Itself

I had a weird event on a print. It was a 36 hour print needed for a gift. Around hour 14 it ran out of filament, no big deal- loaded more and it restarted where it left off just fine. 10 hours later the Artisan rebooted itself. No reason. It “tried” to start where it left off (I guess) but it just spun for about an hour. I thought it was trying to find it’s last location in the G-Code file, but nothing… after an hour I had to cancel and resetup the print… loosing tons of filament and more importantly about 25 hours of my time.

The reprint was successful 36 hours later, so it wasn’t the G-Code. Nothing else rebooted at the location, so I don’t think it was a brown-out.

Anyway, suggesting that the restart on a reboot be looked at, seems to be am issue somewhere.

Is your machine plugged into a power conditioner? Sometimes random voltage drops or spikes (aka brown out or dirty voltage) can cause weird and anomalous machine behavior that make no sense. A short mild to moderate voltage change from the wall outlet might not be enough to shut your machine off, but it can make it spaz out. I used to get the occasional machine glitch, but after I purchased a power conditioner I’ve yet to encounter one. If you’re doing really long prints on a regular basis I’d consider getting a power conditioner.

Did you export your logs and had a look at it?
Maybe share here or to support?

Sorry, I didn’t think about getting a log off the Artisan…

I do have it plugged into an old UPS… the battery side doesn’t work, but the conditioning side does. It would probably be wise to go and buy a new UPS…
