40 watt laser height

When calibrating the 40 watt laser how high off the material is the guide suppose to be? My 40 laser is not. calibrating correctly?

Here is a starting point:

Newly installed 40W laser, can't move on to Platform Height Calibration

My fat fingering - turns out that the toolhead power boost cable (double end), while pin-compatible with either the toolhead or addon 1 ports, needs to be connected in specific location (as printed on the connector!).
