Wondering if filament spool installation can be moved above (to filament dryers)

Hello.

I am wondering if filament spool installation can be moved above (to filament dryers)

I really don’t want the filament spools on the sides with no heating and drying.

You can put your filament basically anywhere - just make sure that the filament can move freely and without much resistance along its whole path. Obstructions and hard bends may lead to frustrations while printing, causing all kinds of problems, starting with inconsistent extrusion, and including nozzle clogs or nozzle-pullups that let your print fail.

I am mostly concerned with the RFID sensors (which are probably located in the spool holders) and the filament sensor blocks (which would benefit from being repositionable).

To my knowledge, none of the Snapmaker products uses RFID or other methods to enforce proprietary filament.

I must admit (apologies!) that I overlooked that this is a question in the U1 category - so how this product behaves remains to be seen. Sorry for the confusion caused - deferring to Snapmaker officials to give details here!

I haven’t seen details yet, but I believe the RFID on the SM filaments is to auto detect filament type/color. Otherwise it has to be manually set. I could be mistaken but I think I read that somewhere.

Does the Snapmaker U1 support third-party filaments?

Yes, the Snapmaker U1 is compatible with third-party filaments, provided they have a diameter of 1.75 mm and meet general material quality standards. However, please note that the RFID recognition feature will not work with third-party filaments.

I have an Artisan 3 in 1 machine. I live in Florida with high humidity, so I need dryer boxes outside the enclosure.to protect the filament. It is a long route with the filament tube into the boxes. The little fittings press into the dryer box somewhat flimsy, so press hard to seat them. I ran a 20 hour print with no trouble. When you feed into the extruder feel the pull force and follow the routing to see if everything is proper. If you get errors of a problem, move the dryer box to a different location.
