There’s a weird noise coming from the toolhead/extruder when I am printing now. It wasn’t there a few days ago. And I am not able to understand exactly where it is coming from. Anyone experience the same, and have any suggestions?
Did you check the underside of the print head? It sure sounds like it’s dragging something…
Didn’t see anything on the offending print head, but I did feel something. Doing a cleaning and reprint now, and will report back later
Start of the print after cleaning sounded fine, but it seems to be picking up some of the PETG underway and starts scraping it around.
Trying to print today it was even worse. Without changing any settings. So, in the dryer the filament goes!
So, here’s the thing.
When I removed the PETG to put it in the dryer, I noticed that there looked to be still some filament in the tube going from the main body to the toolhead. So I removed the tube, and sure enough, there were about 20 cm of PLA stuck in the “bend” of the tube. And also a piece broken off laying down in the toolhead. I hadn’t noticed when I removed the PLA previously that because it was kinda brittle, it had broken off inside the tube.
Removal of this has now made the machine well behaved again.
I had a similar problem. Printed with old PLA filament. Everything was fine. However, when retracting or changing the filament, it broke multiple times inside the tube. I received error messages several times until all pieces of the old filament were removed. I also see this issue with the 6mm PTFE tubes leading to the print head—two strands of filament can fit side by side in them. If these were 4mm PTFE tubes, leftover pieces would simply be pushed into the extruder.
Yea I’m really curious on why they decided on the 6mm tubes? I’ve gotten bits of filament stuck in mine as well.
