U1 - how overrule filament detection

Hi All,

I have had a lot of great prints allready from the U1. I am using a combination of the Snapmaker filament that came with the printer and also some Polymaker filament.

I print from 4 dryboxes, 2 which are connected to the autoloader, 2 that are not.

Now i have a weird issue, i have the black oringinal filament on toolhead1, autoloaded (not recognized from rfid because it is further from the printer in the drybox. i have grey polymaker filament in toolhead 2, manual feeding from the drybox. I just did a long print with toolhead 2 in grey, which i wanted to do again, but now all of a sudden it says it has recognized black snapmaker filament in toolhead 2. if i try to tap the toolhead to change it, I cannot, it just showes this eye icon, the other toolheads have the pen icon.

How can I overrule the incorrectly ā€œautodetectedā€ filament type and color?

Thanks!!

You can directly set the filament color and material for your corresponding toolhead on the machine.

You can submit a ticket at the same time in case the technical staff or fellow users in the forum don’t respond promptly.

i cannot set the color and material on the machine for this toolhead, that is the problem. i can set it for all toolheads but not for that one, it shows the eye icon instead of the pen icon like on the other toolheads

Did you try unloading the filament & reloading it? It’s also possible the RIFD reader is picking up the tag from the dry box. Try putting a piece of tape over the chip on the spool.

I had this happen awhile back, if I remember correctly restarting Snorca fixed it. If not, load and unload again.

thanks all,

i will do the unloading and reloading.

Might be a good QOL improvement for Snapmaker to make the toolhead still editable for filament type and color even if it was recognized from RFID. no harm done in making it free to edit, then i dont have to waste filament by unloading and loading again

How do I restart Snorca ?

hmm now i’s getting really anoying; even after unloading succesfully, the snapmaker still indicates it has the black rfid detected filament… could not edit. loading manually again still kept the black filament…. i dont seem to ever get the chance to edit/change it…..

Yea they still have alot of work to do on Snorca, which is a shame because the U1 itself is so good. I’d personally love to see a profile on Bambu Studio, but I’m sure that will never happen.

Our engineers and software team are currently designing a comprehensive solution for filament customization and management issues. Any additional suggestions can be fed back under this post!!

That’s great to hear! I think it can be a really simple solution: basically allow for an ā€œeditā€ of filament type and color even if RFID has recognized something already. This ā€œ editā€ functionality already exists for manually loaded filament without RFID. Then there is no need for the workaround of removing the filament, placing it far away, and loading it again.

This involves other related functions, so it needs to be considered comprehensively. For example, it’s also related to automatic filament renewal, so we need to consider scenarios related to automatic renewal (currently, automatic renewal only supports the same brand of filament - same main category - same subcategory - same color. After modification, the logic needs to ensure no errors). We are trying to collect as many scenarios as possible, such as automatic renewal, not restricting third-party filament brands, choosing the same type and color (some users say they hope color can be relaxed, or give users the choice to accept color change renewal).

For filament management, we are currently focusing on making the custom filament related functions as user-friendly as possible, avoiding situations where they disappear after switching. Then ensure that the logic of other related functions is correct. The software team is working overtime, hoping to officially release version 1.0.0 of Snapmaker Orca before the Spring Festival. Please stay tuned!!

I have both an X1c & k2 plus both with RFID readers. Neither will let you edit filament with a tag. Once in a while they don’t read the tag but have never had it read the tag wrong. I’ll bet it your spools were on the spool holders your problem would disappear. To use dry boxes they will need to be shielded from the RFID reader. I’d try aluminum foil or aluminum tape.
