Hello all! Was wondering if torching PLA or petg is a good way to smooth surfaces? Foggy plastics can become more clear etc. Will eventually make test pieces but was wondering if anybody has already tried?
I haven’t heard of it but the first google result is this video. Looks pretty finicky, easy to melt through in his models. If you’re planning on that I would probably suggest ensuring you have at least 5 or 6 wall layers to minimize melting through.

Yea, every time I’ve tried to mess with heating the plastic it’s pretty much always resulted in deformation. I presume it’s due to to hollow nature of printed parts, so Brent’s advice of more walls could help (or you could try 100% infill if you’ve just got too much time on your hands).
