This hole thing is snowballing into a next level single extruder that snapmaker never produced :slight_smile:

Considering this mod… is it still worth it these days with all the new printers that are out?

If you already have a Snapmaker, this is a worthy upgrade. Though, it’s probably not worthwhile if you have some extra cash and are already considering a new printer.

Hi Nick, Thank-you for the detailed tutorial! This is a potential game changer. I recently purchased a Snapmaker 2.0 and was seeking ways to maximize the volumetric flow rate with a Mosquito Magnum+ when I found this thread. I plan on ordering everything needed, but first wanted to confirm a few things first:

  1. Is this mod compatible with the quick change kit (it is essential for me)?
  2. Have you made any unpublished updates?
  3. Is the runout sensor a possibility (would be very nice to have)?
  4. Given the rapid evolution of components, would you use anything different today (e.g., extruder, hotend) or has this setup been quite satisfactory? As long as it works well, it seems to be the ideal solution for my application.

My focus is PLA and TPU, maximizing volumetric flow rate for PLA. With firmware updates for linear modules, larger diameter CHT nozzles (1.0mm), and the Mosquito Magnum+, it should be possible to print very fast without exceeding recommended linear speeds. However, it is not clear if the volumetric flow rate of the Bondtech LGX ACE hotend is as high as the non-ACE version - I’m waiting to hear from Slice, but if anyone has insight, please share.

Hello @loddie! As it stands, this mod is not comparable with the Quick Swap Kit on the toolhead, but it can be used if the quick swap kit is on the bed. I have made no updates as I have sold all of my remaining Snapmaker machines. I could post a link to the CAD if you want to make your own updates. I’m sure with some tinkering, the runout sensor may work, but currently, it doesn’t work as designed.

As for your other question to Slice. The ACE has provably better cooling performance, and that would be my recommendation to eliminate heat creep. I also recommend only using one of the two mosquito magnum’s heater tubes as Snapmaker cannot provide the full 100W of heating without some major modifications.

Thanks Nick! Yes, if you don’t mind sharing the CAD files, that would be helpful as I can modify them. If you happened to design in Fusion360, that would be ideal, but .step, .obj or other common file format is fine as well.

For the Magnum+, I was going to run it off a separate power supply - I’ve already acquired a second Snapmaker 2.0 power supply to power one or both heaters. That will probably required cable modifications, but I think it is doable.

Thank-you for the advice on the ACE - that is the direction I’ll go once they are back in stock.

As far as the runout sensor, is the challenge mechanical or integrating the sensor with Snapmaker? If it’s mechanical, I will try to refine it but if it is software integration, probably not.

It’s a loss for the community that your sold your Snapmaker gear! I’m very grateful for your contribution and detailed tutorial.

Note, the File named “Snaper 2.1 A350T” is in both solidworks and in STEP format. That’s the one with the most modifications. The run out sensor was just a mechanical adapter that I never found time to add.
