Snapmaker U1 High Flow Hotend Beta Testers Calls

  1. PETG, 12mm³/s regular, 20 mm³/s CHT
  2. Yes. on old Creality CR10, Bambu P1S, and I have spare toolheads for U1
  3. Yes, CHT nozzles for Bambu P1S

I use a variety of filaments, from your run of the mill PLA, HighSpeed PLA & variants (+, silk, cf, wood, whatever), through PETG, PETG HF (Rapid), various ABS, ASA and TPU (including TPU HF variants) and I’ve got some recycled/unknowns in the pile

Usually I run my PLA between 18 and 22 mm³/s (since that’s what I currently print the most)

Yes. On U1 couple times, on BBL P1S multiple times, on other printers just tuning and basic replacing nozzle from standard to hardened or similar

So far only e3d 0.4 obxidian for A1 (pushed up to 35mm³/s, only with HS PLA)

No prob, I have 2x U1, perfect for some testing

Hello,

  1. I use PLA & PETG with ranges of 12 to 20 mm/s.
  2. I’ve aready changed the original hotends with the hardened ones.
  3. No, I did not.

Thank you!

PLA, PLA Highspeed, PETG and occasionally ASA/TPU. I am using the defaults for the filament types for flow rate with good success.

I changed the hotends from the standard .4 to the hardended steel .4mm nozzles when they arrived without issue.

I have a Pika hotend/nozzle for the X1C which I have yet to install.

Happy to test these if selected!

I am interested in testing the new nozzles.

1- I use Ptges Speed and PLA to print sales labels for Marks Place, at a speed of 22-23 mm/s

2- I have already disassembled it, replaced the hotends with generic 0.4 mm models, and also with hardened 0.4 mm hotends.

3- No

Hello,

Interested in testing the high flow hot ends

  1. What filaments do you use, and what is your usual volumetric flow rate (mm³/s)?
    PLA, PLA-HS, PLA-CF, PETG, PETG-HS
  2. Have you ever disassembled, installed, or tuned the hotend assembly on your printer?
Yes, I have had to disassemble the print heads and remove the hot ends due to filament jamming.
  3. Have you used other high flow hotends? (e.g., CHT 0.6mm brass)
    Not yet
I am very pleased with the performance and quality prints I get from my U1.

Thanks,

Raymond Alexander

I would like to help test high flow nozzles for the U1, I use this printer the most right now out of the 9 different printers I have because I am doing a lot of multicolor printing and I prefer the speed of the U1.

  1. I mostly use PLA/PETG, but print ASA, ABS, TPU, PAHT-CF, PLA-CF, PETG-CF, PC-CF, PCTG, etc. I have a lot of filament, Mostly I am printing at around 18-20mm³/s, but have tuned up to around 30 with my Rapido UHF for my Voron. I also have the new Pika hotend for BBL, that should be capable up to around 50-60mm³/s, but haven’t tested it yet since I am having more fun playing with my U1 and fast multicolor printing.
  2. I am very familiar with taking hotends apart for troubleshooting and repair, as well I am familiar with building them from scratch. I built a Voron 2.4, and have built about 3 different styles of hotends for that printer. All that building requires a lot of tunning to get the best flow, so I am quite familiar with all the tuning tests. I have tuned several high speed filaments so I could create profiles for my other printers as well as the U1.
  3. I have used a few different high flow hotends: BBL hotends that are high flow for the X1 and H2, The Revo for the X1, the Phaetus Rapido UHF v2, the Prusa Core One high flow hotends, I have the Pika for X1C but haven’t installed it yet. Almost all my high flow hotends are 0.4mm, but I have used 0.2mm, 0.5mm, and 0.6mm nozzles.

Cheers.

Hi Zoe and SnapMaker team,

here is Gabriele from Italy, one of your U1 pre-production beta tester, and I’ve supported you and Blyane at FormNext. I’m again interested in giving my support also for test these new HF hotends.

    1. What filaments do you use, and what is your usual volumetric flow rate (mm³/s)?
    2. Have you ever disassembled, installed, or tuned the hotend assembly on your printer?
    3. Have you used other high flow hotends? (e.g., CHT 0.6mm brass)

Here my answers:

  1. I’m used to regularly print with Snapmaker J1 and U1, and many others 3D printers, U1 is my every day home printer. I’m printing 70% thecnical functional parts with 2 materials and 30% multicolors parts.
I usually use filaments from different brands PLA, PETG (also CF and GF), ASA, ABS and few prints with PA.

On the U1 I’m using pre-selected volumetric speed, but sometimes I try to speed up, for fast 3D manufacturing:

  • PLA: btw 20–25 mm³/s
  • PETG and PETG-HF: btw 10–20 mm³/s
  • ASA: btw 10–15 mm³/s
  • ABS: no print on U1

I would like to speed up at least PETG prints, but also PLA is usefull.
Try to find best speed with single part, and then moving to batch production with many parts on single plate.

  1. Yes, I’m used to perform full 3D printers maintance when is required, by also removing, and installing different nozzles on U1.

  2. I have used HF and different nozzle sizes on many printers (from Bambu, Creality to Elegoo).

During the test period I can provide weekly feedback, on techincal side, surface quality, parts accurancy and strenght. I’ve different tools for evaluating dimensional accurancy.

Best regards

  1. Which filaments do you use and what is your typical volumetric flow rate (mm³/s)?

I most often use PLA and PETG. I print PLA on the U1 at 20 mm³/s and PETG at 16 mm³/s.

  1. Have you ever disassembled, installed, or adjusted the hotend module on your printer?

Yes!

  1. Have you used other high-flow hotends? (e.g., CHT 0.6 mm brass)

No

Primary filaments:

PLA and PCTG

Some useage of PETG and ASA and 95a TPU.

Flowrate varies between 12 and 30mm/s.

Replaced all .4mm hotends with Hardened Steel

Completely disassembled and replaced one extruder.

Partial disassembly of two hotends for clogs.

I have used the MicroSwiss CHT high flow hotend for BAMBU LAB X1C.

Confirm that I will install any BETA software as required by Snapmaker.

I run only factory Snapmaker firmwares.

What types of materials do you use? What is your typical volumetric flow rate (mm³/s)?
I own three U1 printers and typically use Sunlu PETG, ASA, TPU, and PLA nozzles for printing various items. PLA: 18 mm³/s; PETG: 16 mm³/s; ASA: 14 mm³/s; TPU: 10~12 mm³/s

  2. **Have you ever disassembled, installed, or tuned the hotend assembly on your printer?
Have you ever disassembled, installed, or adjusted the hotend (nozzle) of your printer?
    **
Previously, I frequently needed to disassemble and reassemble CNC guide feed components, so I can easily disassemble and reassemble the hotend in 15 minutes.

  3. Have you used other high flow hotends? (e.g., CHT 0.6mm brass)
Have you used other high-flow hotends (e.g., 0.6 mm brass hotends)?

My current U1 printers have 0.4 mm stainless steel and hardened steel nozzles, while the Qidi MAX4 has hardened steel and tungsten carbide nozzles ranging from 0.4 to 0.8 mm.

What filaments do you use, and what is your usual volumetric flow rate (mm³/s)? I use pla, pla plus, petg, asa, and tpu

Have you ever disassembled, installed, or tuned the hotend assembly on your printer?
Yes for both the U1 and a bambu

Have you used other high flow hotends? (e.g., CHT 0.6mm brass)

Yes on Bambu

  1. I print with Numaker PETG-HS at 20mm3/s
  2. Yes, I have disassembled a hotend assembly.
  3. Have not used other high flow hotends - only brass and hardened steel nozzles.

Also, would be interested to know the projected flow rate increase and if hardened steel design.

What filaments do you use, and what is your usual volumetric flow rate (mm³/s)?

PLA and PCTG 12 to 20. Multiple brands and colors.

Have you ever disassembled, installed, or tuned the hotend assembly on your printer?

Yes. I have had the hot end assembly apart. 40 years of mechanical work under my belt. (Not an engineer)

Have you used other high flow hotends? (e.g., CHT 0.6mm brass)

No, I have not used high flow nozzles on any machine yet.

Hello, I would very much like to participate

1. What filaments do you use, and what is your usual volumetric flow rate (mm³/s)? Mostly standard engineering/production filaments for batch work. Stock U1 hotends top out around 20mm³/s for me, but I’ve hit as high as 60mm³/s on the Pika hotend with a 0.4mm Bondtech CHT nozzle, so I’m used to running well past stock flow limits.

2. Have you ever disassembled, installed, or tuned the hotend assembly on your printer? Yes, extensively. I contribute to the Paxx12 Extended Firmware project for the U1 and have done hotend/toolhead-level hardware work as part of that, plus hardware-in-loop testing on other U1 accessory firmware I’ve developed (Panda Breath chamber heater). Comfortable with full disassembly, thermistor/heater swaps, and nozzle changes.

3. Have you used other high flow hotends? (e.g., CHT 0.6mm brass) Yes — I’ve already tested a prototype high flow hotend for the U1, including runs with 0.6mm, 1.0mm, and 0.4mm CHT nozzles.

One note on the firmware requirement: I currently run the Paxx extended firmware on my U1. Happy to switch to the official V1.6.0 beta for the testing period — flag me if there’s any flexibility needed there given the fork work, since I could also give useful feedback on stock vs. extended firmware compatibility.

What filaments do you use, and what is your usual volumetric flow rate (mm³/s)? PETG/PLA/ABS/ASA - 30mm3

ABS-CF 20mm3

TPU 10mm3

Have you ever disassembled, installed, or tuned the hotend assembly on your printer? Yes, multiple times. I’ve already swapped in your .4 hardened steel nozzles. I also have your .6 hardened steel nozzles. This was for the U1, for my voron and ratrig, I’ve done even more customizations with hotends and nozzles and the creation of custom designed parts.

Have you used other high flow hotends? (e.g., CHT 0.6mm brass) Yes, CHT, Triangle Labs CHT, Flowtech, Nanoflow. I’ve also used everything from V6 hotends, Creality K Series, Rapido, Triangle Labs Draon Ace and Chube. I’ve used brass, bimetal, tungsten carbide, and hardened steel nozzles.

I can install and use the beta firmware or your slicer

Zoe_M,

I would enjoy testing these new nozzles, I really hope they are successful!

My answers to the three questions;

  1. I print about half the time with PETG-GF for functional parts. Getting ready to seal up my U1 and improve the Stepper Driver cooling so I can print ASA/ASB, etc. I’m always struggling to get these to print above 20 cu mm/sec, sometimes I am successful. Really wishing Snapmaker Orca was friendlier to multiple nozzle sizes in one print.
  2. Several times on both the 0.4 and 0.6 Hardened Steel Nozzles from Snapmaker
  3. I use 0.6 mm Hardened Steel Nozzles on the U1 and on my Sovol Zero (MK8 type). Generic, MicroSwiss, and Snapmaker nozzles. Never have used a CHT.

Thanks for the opportunity!

Jerry Mulder

  1. PETG 14mm3/s
    PLA 18mm3/s
    TPU 3.2mm3/s

  2. I have never disassembled, installed or tuned the hotend assembly so I’m a good tester for first use.

  3. I have used a Phaetus Rapido hotend with a Bondtech CHT 0.6mm bimetal nozzle on my self designed and built Delta printer

I’m very much interested in the high flow hotends especially for printing PLA faster but I will definitely also test it with other filaments to see what the limits are. I’d like to do all kinds of calibrations with the new high flow hotends!

I’ve been building and designing my own printers since 2012, it’s very nice to see how far we’ve come
