Hi Zoe,

Thank you for letting me know about this opportunity.

I am very interested in testing the new 0.4 mm high-flow hotends for the Snapmaker U1. I would be available to test them in real-world production scenarios throughout the entire testing period.

1. What filaments do you use, and what is your usual volumetric flow rate (mm³/s)?

I regularly print with standard PLA, high-speed PLA, PETG, ABS, HIPS, TPU 95A, PVA, and PVB.

With a 0.4 mm nozzle, the volumetric flow rates I typically use are approximately:

  • Standard PLA: 16 mm³/s

  • High-speed PLA: 18–20 mm³/s

  • PETG: 12 mm³/s

  • ABS: 7 mm³/s

  • HIPS: 8 mm³/s

  • TPU 95A: 3–4 mm³/s

  • PVA: 4–6 mm³/s

  • PVB: 12–15 mm³/s

2. Have you ever disassembled, installed, or tuned the hotend assembly on your printer?

Yes. I have removed and reinstalled U1 hotends several times, both when installing hotends with different nozzle diameters and when troubleshooting or clearing filament clogs.

3. Have you used other high-flow hotends? (e.g., CHT 0.6 mm brass)

Yes. I have used a Bondtech CHT 0.6 mm Coated Brass Nozzle and have had very good results with it, including consistent extrusion, good print quality, and reliable layer adhesion.

I would be happy to document the test results, share my experience, and provide detailed feedback.

Thank you for the opportunity!

Best regards,
Alberto

  1. What filaments do you use, and what is your usual volumetric flow rate (mm³/s)?
I use PETG-CF for my daily printing. But I also print a lot with TPU (65a-90a) and PVA for supports.
Generally I print the TPU’s slower at 3.2.
  2. Have you ever disassembled, installed, or tuned the hotend assembly on your printer?
    1. Yes. I have replaced mutliple nozzles and have replaced one nozzle with a plated tungsten carbide.
  3. Have you used other high flow hotends? (e.g., CHT 0.6mm brass)
Yes, my previous printer I had high flow nozzles and I currently have one installed on the U1.

If you’re interested, please answer the following 3 questions in the comments:

  1. What filaments do you use, and what is your usual volumetric flow rate (mm³/s)?
    1. This is something i have mess with so much, would be so exciting, I have used TPU, ASA, PLA, PETG, ABS. I have been able to push many of these between 10 and 25mm3/s.
      1. ABS - 20
      2. PLA - 25
      3. PETG - 21
      4. TPU - 10 -17 (depending on how lucky i am with brands)
      5. ASA: 23 - 26
  2. Have you ever disassembled, installed, or tuned the hotend assembly on your printer?
    1. On other brands I have done this specifically more. With the snapmaker I have pull the hotends out messaed with them but not fuly dissabled the hotend itself?
  3. Have you used other high flow hotends? (e.g., CHT 0.6mm brass)
    1. I have used other brands on different printers not on the U1 yet …IT WOULD BE NO NICE to speed up prints.

What filaments do you use, and what is your usual volumetric flow rate (mm³/s)?

PLA+HS, Polymaker PLA, PETG, ASA, PC/PC-CF, PA-CF, HIPS depending on application but primary go-tos are VoxelPLA+HS and Polymaker ASA. 12 mm^3-30mm^3 depending on material, nozzle, and machine.

Have you ever disassembled, installed, or tuned the hotend assembly on your printer?

Have assembled, rebuilt, and tuned Artillery, Voron, and fully self-sourced 3d printers\

Have you used other high flow hotends? (e.g., CHT 0.6mm brass)

Yes, Revo HF is my go to but have also used Volcano CHT, and Super Volcano

For users currently running the paxx extended firmware, please confirm your willingness to install the official 1.6.0 beta firmware when available.

Yes, using paxx for the lower stepper temperature and a few fixes I’m waiting for mainline firmware to include but I’m totally familiar with building and upgrading firmware and not concerned with the publisher of firmware beyond security concerns.

As the u1 benchy record holder for months now, making my own x1c highflow conversion mod, and a preproduction pika hotend tester. I would love to test these new hotends out.

  1. i use pla/petg/petg-cf/abs/abs-cf/asa/nylon. With the pika and cht nozzles, I’ve printed upwards of 90mm3 flow. Typical flow rates i use for 0.4 is 35-40mm3, 0.6/0.8cht 35-60mm3

  2. I’ve gone to extremes with tuning including custom hotends and heater swaps

  3. yes pika with various nozzles, and my custom x1c Microswiss hotend with cht flowtech nozzles

Mostly Petg-hf around 15-22mms and Snapmaker snap speed 22-25mms

Just bought a full set of .2 mm hot ends to try out so yes I have had experience changing out hot ends and fixed several issues with some minor clogs

no experience with high flow hot ends but would like to try some I mostly do custom containers for collectible coins and lots of prototypes

Hello!

I would love to be a beta tester for the high flow nozzles!

  1. I have used Snapmaker, Voxel, Elegoo, Polymaker and Overture brand filaments in PLA, PLA-CF, PETG and PETG-GF, TPU and PET-GF. I calibrate each filament and save a profile with modified flow rate, retraction and temperature. I get about 22 cubic mm flow from the Voxel PLA and Overture PETG after calibration. Higher flow rates produced

  2. I have already purchased the hardened steel 0.4mm hotends from Snapmaker and installed them in my machine. I have the Stainless steel originals as backups.

  3. I have an Elegoo Centauri Carbon in which I have installed a Microswiss Flowtech hotend. I have 0.4, 0.6 and 0.8mm high-flow hardened nozzles and I love the results it provides. I calibrated each filament for the flowtech nozzles and saw an improvement in flow from 25 to 45% depending on the filament type used.

I heard rumors Microswiss was making a hotend for the U1. Is this a collaboration? That would be awesome.

Thank you!

  1. Which filaments do you use, and what is your typical volumetric flow rate (mm³/s)?
Polymaker Panchroma Matte PLA 20 mm³/s
    Polymaker Luminous PLA 15 mm³/s
    Polymaker Starlight PLA 15 mm³/s
Overture “high speed” TPU 3.2 mm³/s
    Polylight PETG 7.5 mm³/s
    Recyclingfabrik rPLA 12 mm³/s
    Recyclingfabrik rPETG 12 mm³/s
    …
  2. Have you ever disassembled, installed, or adjusted your printer’s hotend module?
    No.
  3. Have you used other high-flow hotends before? (e.g., CHT 0.6 mm brass)
    No.

What exactly defines a high-flow hotend?

  1. PLA(Snapspeed, sunlu HS, Prusa), PETG(sunlu normal/HS), TPU Flowrate Range is from 8-27 depending on the filament and calibrated for each of them
  2. yes to the 0.2 Hotend
  3. no

So far I use the snapmaker Firmware.

Best regards
Frank

  1. Primarily PLA and PETG, but I’ve also used some TPU (95A) and some PA6-GF for a few projects.
On the U1, I’ve mostly gone with whatever the default for the profile, so somewhere between 12 and 20. On my Prusa MK4s, I mostly stick with 20.
  2. Yes, I’ve changed from the original .4 heads to .6 hardended steel, and then down to .4 hardened steel, so far. I also built my MK4S w/ MMU3 previously, as well as some upgrades to an older creality Ender 3 Pro.
  3. Not on this machine. I did use a HF Nozzle with the Prusa MK4S for a while.

I’ve been pondering the paxx firmware for some of the NFC tag options, but haven’t made the leap yet. I don’t mind sticking with the official firmware (even in a beta format).

I’m interested in beta testing. Would be happy to run calibration tests between standard and high flow nozzles and some test builds to provide feedback.

  1. PLA/PLA+, PETG, TPU. Calibrated volumetric ranges from 6-1mm³/s.

  2. I have disassembled and installed hotend assemblies.

  3. I have not used other high flow hotends.

  4. I can upgrade to the beta 1.6.0 firmware.

  1. What filaments do you use, and what is your usual volumetric flow rate (mm³/s)?

Duramic, Elegoo, Polymaker, Snapmaker-- TPU, petg, and PLA/ PLA Plus. I’ve tried Polycarbonate, but I need better heat consistency in the chamber/ settings

    Petg 12mm/s, PLA

    TPU 3.2mm/s

    PLA/ PLA Plus 12/mm/s

  2. Have you ever disassembled, installed, or tuned the hotend assembly on your printer?

Yes, I’ve swapped a few nozzles and had to recalibrate after. I even ran two .2, and two .4 nozzles in the same print recently

  3. Have you used other high flow hotends? (e.g., CHT 0.6mm brass)

No, I never understood them but would like to learn about them, especially if we can test if they will work in the same print as a normal nozzle to speed up larger areas and let there be finer details in others

  1. What filaments do you use, and what is your usual volumetric flow rate (mm³/s)?
PLA, SnapSpeed PLA, PETG, High Speed PETG, 98A TPU, Tough PC, ABS, PC-CF and flow rates from 3.2 all the way up to 23 mm/s.
  2. Have you ever disassembled, installed, or tuned the hotend assembly on your printer?
I have removed SS hotends to swap with HS hotends and it was pretty easy.
  3. Have you used other high flow hotends? (e.g., CHT 0.6mm brass)
I have used 0.6 and 0.8 HS hotends on my U1

I print mainly with PLA and PETG, I have done some TPU printing
I have disassembled the hot end on my A1, A1 Mini and Flashforge AD5M
I don’t believe I have used High Flow hot ends.

Thank you!

I use Sunlu Pla (around 20mm^3/s), Sunlu easy PA (13.75mm^3/s), Jessie Premium PLA (about 20mm^3/s), Overture TPU (3.2mm^3/s), Overture marble PLA (8mm^3/s), Ataraxia Art FPLA+ (3.2mm^3/s).

Yes I’ve built and rebuilt many hotends from many different brands like a lot of Ender 3’s, a few vorons, a K1, an A1, and on my U1 when I was looking at how hard it was (it’s not too bad just getting the cables in the right place takes a bit of work). Yes I also tune all my filaments for flow rate, pressure advance, temperature, retraction, cooling fan speed, and support settings.

Yes I’ve used several but I’ve always used 0.4. I have one on my K1, two of my vorons (0.2 and 2.4), on a Goliath hotend that’s floated between printers and on my old Ender 3.

  1. What filaments do you use, and what is your usual volumetric flow rate (mm³/s)?
I currenly am mostly printing ABS and Hips with 0.4 and 0.5 nozzles
I have pushed the printer to between 18-20mm^3/s with the stock hotend.
  2. Have you ever disassembled, installed, or tuned the hotend assembly on your printer?
I just installed 2x 0.5mm nozzle hardened nozzle with Pika hotends and have pushed the machine to 25mm^3/s and hopfully higher soon
  3. Have you used other high flow hotends? (e.g., CHT 0.6mm brass)
I have use both Microswiss and Bondtech CHT nozzle of various sizes on other machines from 0.4-1mm in both hardened and stadard brass.
    If possible it would be
awesome to see 0.5mm Nozzle support too, for more support for CF/GF filaments.
  1. What filaments do you use, and what is your usual volumetric flow rate (mm³/s)?
PLA: 15-20 mm³/s (Average between brands)
    PETG: 25 mm³/s (Polymaker’s new formula PETG. Others usually 15 mm³/s)
TPU: 4-10 mm³/s (Depends on the type and brand of TPU)

  2. Have you ever disassembled, installed, or tuned the hotend assembly on your printer?
    Yes

  3. **Have you used other high flow hotends? (e.g., CHT 0.6mm brass)
Yes, I have used high flow hotends on several prints, but not yet on the U1.

I have a very large inventory of varying types and brands of filament I would be happy to provide honest feedback on using the high flow hot ends. I own 3 U1 printers, so can easily do a side by side comparison of stock vs high flow hoteneds.**

What filaments do you use, and what is your usual volumetric flow rate (mm³/s)?
U1 Specifically:

  • PLA 12-20 mm³/s
  • SILK PLA 6.7-10.2 mm³/s
  • HS PLA+ 15-22 mm³/s
  • PETG 11-13 mm³/s
  • HS PETG 16-22 mm³/s
  • 95A TPU 7-9 mm³/s
  • HF 95A TPU 9-11 mm³/s

Awaiting official on order tophat for ABS/ASA/PC/PA testing, have BIQU Popcap if higher temp testing is needed.
I have ~350KG of filament in house from PLA to PPS-GF.

Have you ever disassembled, installed, or tuned the hotend assembly on your printer?

  • Swapped the hotends from SS to HSN on my U1.
  • Have extra complete toolheads for both Left and Right in my maintenance stock.
  • Swapping hotends, modding hotends, and PID tuning is common occurrence on all my printers.

Have you used other high flow hotends?

  • I use HF nozzles on most of my other printers, including H2C, X1C, CC1, SK1, and FLSUN T1 Pro and S1 Pro.
  • Across all my printers, HF ranges between 35 and 70 mm³/s.
