Snapmaker RFID Not Registering When Re-Loaded

So readers know: all I’ve done so far is set up my U1 and run off multiple dragon test prints. I’m getting “toolhead swapping anomaly” messages at the end of most prints, usually a multiple count on toolhead 2 and none (or few) on the other toolheads.

I decided to confirm my suspicions about this being a defect of that particular physical toolhead by swapping them around, so I unloaded the filament on heads 2 and 4, physically switched heads 2 and 4, and tried to re-load the filament.

The first time out, filament loading worked like a charm. Loading the Snapmaker filaments resulted in the colour and type being correctly assigned to each toolhead (by RFID, I presume). But now, I can’t get them to register at all. I realise I can set them up manually, but right now I am exploring this printer and I want to understand why it isn’t working.

To start with, I did not physically remove the reels from the holders, but in case it had not observed a change of reel I took the reel away and then brought it back. I’ve even tried swapping the reels around, and power-cycling the U1.

What’s the trick?

Other factors which might have a bearing: when originally loaded, the U1 was on its original firmware 0.9.3. It has since been updated to 1.5.1, then 1.4.1, then Paxx 1.4.1 (in case that matters).

I’m not near my Mac at the moment but I remember having to change a setting in PAXX to use openspool rfid, but can’t remember what it’s called without being able to look

But this isn’t Openspool, this is the original Snapmaker RFID. Does that have to be specifically enabled in Paxx? That might be the answer…

I can’t remember if that’s the default or not (snapmaker) worth just having alook what it’s set to though?

Yes, that got it. The Paxx settings defaulted the RFID to “External”, changed that to “Snapmaker” and RFID is working again. Thanks for the nudge.

Nice one, glad its sorted
