Snapmaker Artisan: A New Generation of 3-in-1 3D Printers

Indeed, I totally agree with you. We were promised a number of attachments with wide variety of teaser images ranging from different style rotary attachments (looks like a turntable) to what looks like a manual speed control for the CNC module, and many others. I personally think they should work on making new systems backwards compatible so that previous snapmaker users could upgrade their systems without buying a whole new one which is a pretty good sized investment for the average person.

No I simply think they should make them backwards compatible so that existing snapmaker users could buy parts to upgrade instead of an entire system. When I purchased my snapmaker original, we were promised a bunch of the same crap including rotary modules and all that, but instead of making good on promises back then, they launched snapmaker 2.0. I’m just tired of being lied to.

sorry, it was irony. Architect only exist on my mind… Wait, maybe no… :slightly_smiling_face:

Surprises over surprises - from this remarkable post: Official Snapmaker Owners | Facebook I infer that the Artisan will have a glass bed!

Yup I completely agree with you and Jabian on this and I’m sure I’m not the only one.

No offense, but Snapmaker owes us an in depth discussion on how these new linear modules are better tham the v2 snapmaker2 moduels, and how, specifically, the Z delta caused from the Y motion of the bed causing “tilt” has been rectified.
The user fixes to this issue involved additional footprint and guide rails, which are absent in this iteration.
I owned a snapmaker1, and the snapmaker2 was a no question to me, but as far as I can tell this glaring issue had never been fully rectified and without it being addressed I doubt I will purchase this next machine TBH.

Just to be clear, Snapmaker have said that the Dual Extruder Module will work with series 2.0 machines, that’s as much in the company’s interest as ours. The more powerful CNC spindle will not be backwards compatible because our machines are not stiff enough. The laser module brings nothing new.

You cannot expect a company to stop developing new machines because the improvements are not backwards compatible - the owners of the Original may have gripe here, I’m included in that group. If you think that no further development of series 2.0 will occur then you’re making assumptions, who knows (outside Snapmaker).

There’s no harm in asking questions but don’t be angry.

You nailed it; it’s completely believable.

The dual beam laser won’t cut any clear acrylic, as it can’t focus on clear material. The frequency of the laser will not be absorbed, so the laser will go straight through. If you want to cut clear acrylic, I would suggest you to use our CNC toolhead.

Yes, we will offer the dual extruder separately for 2.0

I own an A250.
I sell 3D printed parts and do not use CNC or laser.
The CNC module was sold.
I am not looking to pursue the latest machines, cost performance is important to me.
Artisan will definitely be considerably more expensive than the 350.
The linear module will be enhanced for the 200w CNC and the price will jump. This does not benefit me in any way.
I will need to replace it in 4-5 years, but I will not buy it unless there is a cost-effective model.
I hope they continue to sell a lower priced model equivalent to the F250.

Things are getting more interesting by the day: This facebook post: Official Snapmaker Owners | Facebook seems to show that Snapmaker sells/will sell a rebranded/acquired(?) Jadelabo J1 as Snapmaker J1 - unless it’s a well made hoax. What I find remarkable is that the touchscreen interface of the Jadelabo looks very similar to the touchscreen on the Artisan (as far as you can judge from the few pic’s available). Interesting times

@Melitta_Snapmaker

Why is Facebook getting info while your forum is left in the dark? At least give us people on the forums the curtesy of a copy/paste!

To be fair the only development for the Original was the increased Z axis module and a small number of firmware/software updates after the snapmaker 2 was announced so there is some precident there for concern.

I’m not concerned because I fully expected a new machine sometime like 2024. This seems a bit early though.

Three things I noticed.

  1. Look at the power supply. Big and clunky, and seems it cannot reside INSIDE the tight enclosure. The 2.0 PSU can sit under the bed out of the way or mounted on a vertical rail with simple to make brackets.

  2. Gone, it seems is the phone sized and movable controller. If the control unit is fixed on the PSU then it will be very difficult to use. If it is actually just parked there and can be moved, it seems a bit big to be handy.

  3. The enclosure looks like a simple mockup, not real. Seems too small for the size of the machine. Looks like a single door in front, not at all like the dual 3 panel doors on 2.0. If it is a single panel door that will affect the external work area.

Also I left a comment on the rail design on the initial promotion page. (Artisan; Episode 1)

Hi @tcornell welcome to the Snapmaker forum! You’re right. The dual extruder will be offered as an upgrade option for SM 2.0 printers.

It’s a very sincere and helpful suggestion. I apologize that we didn’t make it in a better communication. The fact is that, we have been taking 2.0 owners in our mind when designing the Artisan, and trying our best to make it backward compatible with 2.0 printers as far as possible. I’ve made a brief summary of the considerations behind the upgrade modules/machines developments. Let me share it with the forum users. Of course, there are still a lot of information behind the scenes. I saw that the information gap between our R&D team and our users is relatively large. This is not a good thing. However, it would take a lot of time to fill the gap. Anyway, we’ve noticed this problem and we will start more and more open and transparent communication with our community. Rome was not built in a day. There are possibily no quick results. But as you said, truth will be told eventually. Thank you for your input in the community.

I appreciate the response and will check out the backward compatibility link provided after I posted.

It will called Snapmaker J1. A new name. It will come after Artisan. We will start sharing more info on that project after it is ready for the market. We will deliver the printers to the J1 Kickstarter backers first.

Also the laser module was upgraded.
