I printed the backplate from thing:4153253 (Thingiverse) and used a Noctua fan, model NF-A 4x20 FLX. It is a 12V fan. This 12V is realized with a stepdown converter model LM2596.
The backplate has a tight fit, check the review carefully before printing. Adjust the settings if necessary.
The backplate is the version with 24V output for accessories.

Everything works ok, is just cool and whispers now. Very happy.

Hi,
I did som conversions on CFM to l/hour. The NF-A4x20 FLX has a max spec of 9400 litres/hour which converts to CFM 5.53. Is that good enough? What are the minimum and maximum airflows?
The noice is only 14.9 dB(A) so should be quite nice.

I think the original fan is performing an unnecessary amount. I have been using the Noctua for about a month now. Outlet temperature remains under 30 degrees Celsius, even with a whole day of printing, at a room temperature of 20-27 degrees Celsius. So fine. Yes, it is wonderfully quiet. Every 3db less means halving the sound we hear.

Great. Thanks Wallgarden for your reassuring answer. I have found a fan from ebmpabst that is 24V 40x40x20 and has a flow of 10cubic metres/hour which corresponds to 5.88CFM. Its noice is 18 dbA so slightly higher that your Noctua but a little better airflow. I live in Sweden and the distributor has 600 of those in stock :smiley: so easier to get than the Noctua.
So the remaining question is if I’m voiding the Warranty or compromizing the long term operation by changing the fan.
I have not seen any answer from Edwin or any other Snapmaker staff about min and max flows. It would give me a better idea of operational parameters.
I’ll take my chances next week and order the ebmpabst fan to try it out.

I used a 24V>12V step down module, local shopped for a few euros. Next day delivered.
I noticed its already answered by other members.
That banggood link is a nice one, only need to wait a little bit longer on reception.

I’ve mady my own version of the back cover for a 40x40x20 mm fan.
This one is more sturdy than the others available to download.
A MUST improvement!!!

Is there any update on this @Edwin? It has been over a month since you posted this and have been hoping each time a firmware update comes out that this change will be applied!

I’ve got the Sunon KDE2404PFV2-11AB ordered. It’s 40x10mm in size, and produces 6.97 CFM flow. That’s reasonably close of the original and it makes quite a bit lower noise. (27,1 dbA) Also the fan is really affordable. Just waiting for my soldering gun back from the loaner… :smiley:

Flashy light of the front panel are not buggering me as the PSU will be located at the hanger under the work table. Power switch is a remote controlled wall plug so… :wink:

I’ve tried a 40x10 fan too but it is much louder than my 40x20 fan.
Advantage of the 40x10 is that the new back plate can be completly flat because there is enough room inside the PSU for the fan. 20 mm depht is not possible without modifications.

Sure is one horse’s ass of a fan. Is it even necessary? Thought about cutting the wires to this POS.

What’s the latest from Snapmaker on this?

Just received my A350, and the power module fan noise is 70 db. Is this right?
