Hi, I’ve been playing around with the rotary module with multiple passes using the guide that was posted here and it works great.
My question is, I’m importing a model like a chess piece and there is a huge bit of the stock material stuck to the “base”. Ideally I would like to add a Final Cut to trim the excess away and free the model. Is there a way in Luban to achieve this, maybe by adding a shape? Anyone have any tips?
This is an example of a pawn cnc carved into just some epoxy - the large section at the bottom is what I want to remove.
You could flip the item around and check with the front and create an Op 2 to carve away the base. not sure that will be a ridge enough set up. use the tail stock until near the end to help with rigidity… Unlike a lathe no parting tool on the Snapmaker… (maybe could be created as a module…?).
You can, very carefully, using the v-carve or similar bit manually carve this. I would bring the v-carve bit along side then move it .1 over till it starts carving the material where you want to separate it. Make sure this is far enough away from the jaws. Then rotate the rotary module 360 using the smallest increments available. Observe the bit and material, if the bit doesn’t look stressed/pushed to the side and the cut looks good, you can try .2mm in from the side the next time and or a larger increment of rotation. Just remember that the touchscreen can load up at least 1 or 2 movements if you keep tapping the movement button. Don’t overload the movement and snap the bit. Continue moving over and rotating until the piece you want is separated from the piece in the jaws. Take your time. You might have a small nub at the end to snap off and sand if you do not want the piece to drop by carving it completely.
