Printing issues using Cura iron setting

Yup, I’m using 4.11.0

@gwfami so it’s in the same location In relation to the bed regardless if the model is rotated or not?

Can you post the gcode generated, both with and without monotonic? What you’re saying seems at odds with my understanding of how slicers generate the toolpaths, it would be illuminating to review.

Also, the red and yellow lines you reference in the picture are not self explanatory enough to eliminate what I’m saying as a possibility. I would like to see the gcode.

It doesn’t matter where on the bed it’s printed, nor if the model is rotated or not, results are still the same.

I only have the original gcode without monotonic (link at the top of the topic), and since I’ve changed so many settings I’m unable to recreate the original settings + monotonic only. I did create a new set of gcodes it and attached it both with and without monotonic. The stl is also available about 1/2 the way down the page.

Hope this helps.

I know you are using monotonic, did you try with the new ordering feature on and off in cura?
(i have never tried it and looking in your code i don’t see ordering mention in line 65547+ so wasnt sure if you had turned it on?)

Not sure if I did or not.

Got home and was able to play with slicing settings. I did not reproduce the path order you have, so I’m questioning if the slicer was configured correctly. This is on a new install of Cura 4.11.

First, your paths in both gcodes are the following, with a gap where the last sector approaches from the reverse direction (that is, not monotonically):

When I slice with monotonicity disabled I get the following path (which is slightly different than yours):

This is non-monotonic and will leave a seam at the junction.

When I enable this setting:

This happens:
cura_monotonic
I would expect this to have improved surface quality compared to the other slice.

You may be on to something. Did you take a look at my poor example of the video (animate - YouTube)?

I’m including my snapmaker settings, an excel file version and a regular export version. Perhaps you can clue me in on a setting that I missed or messed up. Sorry about the zip file, it’s the only way that I can upload a .csv or .curaprofile here.

Eggshell True FS PLA fast.zip (4.2 KB)

top_bottom;1;skin_monotonic;bool;False is in the attached settings, which is the setting I screen shotted above

While the iron monotonic setting is enabled in the settings you provided the video does not depict monotonic ironing, so I’m guessing the video is not from those settings.

@brent113 or maybe he has a bug where even though he turns it on, it isn’t actually doing it. If it is the case, most likely cause is a corrupt installation.

It’s quite possible that the iron monotonic setting was not turned on. Unfortunately I have not been able to recover the original Cura settings that I used for the print due to the many changes that I made attempting to fix the issue.

Thanks.
