hi, is it possible to lasercut an 10mm block of POM (Polyoxymethylen)? does anyone have experience with this?
Not with the 1.6mm.
Possibly with 10w.
Depends on color. Wavelength of SM not optimal. Better with a CO2 laser.
White/clear/blue - no
Black, red, brown etc. - possibly.
Probably better off using cnc.

Just guessing here I know nothing about that material but I think 10mm is going to be difficult and likely not give you a good clean cut because of the lensing of the 10W (beam combining the 2 internal laser sources).
I suspect that the narrowest ‘waist’ of the beam isn’t that tall. I’ve been fiddling around with almost 9mm thick plywood and tried doing a couple passes with and without lowering the laser Z plane by a couple mm for the passes after the first. It causes a LOT of extra scorching on the top surface, and doesn’t seem to get thru any better than just leaving it at the same Z plane.
